Civ4 junkies unite!
Once again I find myself addicted to the next generation of Civilization games, wondering if anyone else here at PCMech shares my disease
More specifically, did this game run correctly for you right out of the box? I found that I needed to upgrade a bit, which has naturally lead me down the dark & murky path of wanting to build a whole new rig (not necessarily just for Civ, of course )If you are having trouble still (and the v1.09 patch doesn't seem to help), there is a fix developed that addresses the memory issues. Ran much better after I installed it ... can’t wait for the next patch from Firaxis. |

It's not your comp, that is a common complaint on the Civ4 forums. Bigger maps take more computer resources. I found the game unplayable on 256MB of RAM. Upgraded to a gig and it is now playable. I still have a lot of the eye candy disabled until I can build a better comp.

What's the game like? I have never played a Civ game before. I was just in Best Buy the other day and looked at it, but I picked up Age of Empires III instead since I loved the other two. I'm into the strategy games, but Civ looked daunting after reading reviews on it at IGN and Gamespot.

Civ 4 is aggravating - especially as the later levels. Whoever heard of knights able to defeat a tank...*looks ticked off* I threw away nearly 15 units on one of my enemies cities...freaking took forever...

Latest patch actually helped me out a bit, not to mention the changes to balance game play.
City attacking is a lot tougher in IV vs. III, that's for sure. IMO it is key to reduce the defense % bonus of the city ... lots of siege units, lots of Barrage unit promotions etc. Last edited by Zelpo; 01-04-2006 at 05:11 AM. |
