My friend can't run opengl games for some reason. When he tries to run a game in opengl it freezes up after a couple minutes. He has a geforce 256 sdr, 64mb ram, 300 amd k62. Thats all I can think of.
Thanks for any help. |

Who's the manufacture of the card? Also when he's playing for those couple min, does it run smooth or is it very choppy the whole time? Has he tried lowering the resolution?

First of all, there's nothing wrong w/ playing Half Life (CounterStrike). Second, I found this on Inno3D's site.
Q 9) I installed the GeForce2 MX with out much problems, but when I run games that uses Open GL, my computer freezes and locks up. E.g. Counter Strike HL, Rogue Spear Cover Ops. BUT Quakes3 Arena works really well. Why is this ? A. This is a known issue with the Microsoft OpenGL driver. Presently, the only way to get round it is to disable one of the monitors. (i.e. disabling TwinView) So tell you're friend he's not the only one having problems. Also Inno3D is the same as InnoVISION. |

I have a question. My hercules prophet IImx runs better in open gl than in d3d. From what I have heard around my area, that is not common. Can someone help me clear that up?

Ive always heard opengl runs faster than d3d in most cases. Just what ive heard though. I know with my card (geforce 2 64mb ddr) opengl is way better.

I haven't really played around much with D3D, but when I did try it OpenGL was much better. I just leave it as that since I get around 80 FPS with that. There is a point where the eyes can not tell the difference in FPS.

Yeah, openGL is much better for speed. D3d may look better and you do have plenty of time during freezes to look how pretty it is. To my understanding, the problem is that most games aren't fully utilizing d3d, yet. I have directX 8.a, but openGL still outperforms it.
