Not sure if this is the best place to post this but seeing as this pc is for gaming I'll start here.
I have an AMD X2 64 4200, 2 EVGA SLI 7800 GTs, Asus A8N SLI mobo, 1 gb ram, SATA 80gb hd, 535 Enermax ps and Windows XP 64 bit. I use onboard sound and network. Problem is the only games I have installed stutter and either lockup or close to the "Send your problem to Microsoft" window". Sometimes I get a blue screen which goes by so fast I can't read it. Sometime the machine even reboots. The games I am trying to run right now are F.E.A.R. and COD 2. Both act the same way. If I can get the errors to post I will. This is a new machine with the latest SLI drivers (and a gorgeous yellow Cooler Master Wave Master Aluminum case). The rest I will have to check on. Any ideas how I can get this thing to run right? I read about W-XP-64 and there are pros and cons like everything, so I went with it. Thanks Don Last edited by dondrd; 01-17-2006 at 04:11 PM. |

I will try a reinstall of D-X. I was hoping to get some help determining if the prob was SLI or XP-64. I hate to buy XP Pro if the OS isn't the prob. Let me see if I can't get some error messages to post first. If XP Pro will let me run again I'll buy it. Is XP-64 that hosed?

As far as I know the only game optimized to run on the 64-bit version of Windows is FarCry.
This may help : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896456 Start with the section : Running 32-bit Programs

OK I updated video and chipset drivers. Video is 82.12 I think and don't know chipset.
F.E.A.R. does run but I get a lot of HD activity at level changes and at some points in game, some stuttering and temporary freezing. Occasional lockups or reboot. Not consistently smooth but much better. There must be some adjustments I need to make. Any suggestions? Nothing is oc'd. Okay, here's the the F.E.A.R. site's tech forum : http://forums.vugames.com/forum.jspa?forumID=168
I was wrong that game has native 64 bit support so your problems getting it to run smoothly aren't related to that at all. |

I don't buy built computers. This one is. Usually I build my own and upgrade 'til I can't anymore but with architecture changes I thought I should just order a custom job. If it was an upgrade I could isolate the problem cause easier but with so many changes and new stuff- SLI, XP64, new mb etc it will just take time. It's better but still locks up or reboots occasionally during games. I'll get it straight but I want to thank everyone for their help/suggestions etc.
