If you want a faster download, goto ausgamers.com and search for the demo. Gamespot's free server had atrocious speeds and download.com was pretty bad too.
The demo frustrated me a little bit. I guess I'll wait for reviews of the game to see if it's worth picking up. For example, even though I had several squads of bombers above the planet, the bombing runs didn't refresh too quickly suggesting that the quantity of bombers and timings aren't related. I didn't really like the ground combat. Also, only one fleet can be sent at a time. I sent ground forces first (even though it was just an asteroid field) and it wouldn't let me send a fleet after them, and the game wouldn't let me retreat the forces. Maybe it's a bug or it just wasn't aloud or something. The great part was that I really didn't need to micromanage the resource gathering, and the space combat was decent although I'm a bit confused about certain properties of the ships.

ah... i was playing and i wondered the same thing, in the tutoiral u can call in reinforcements and lol so i had an another fleet ready to go... only problem is i cant do that... only in ground i could tho lol that was neat...
its fun... like galatic battlegrounds but better... in certain areas... i love the space battles, watching the fight in cinematic view. |

i think its only one fleet at a time... which is kinda lame cuz itll be neat to pull in some fancy tactics by using more then one fleet but this is after all a demo... the certain propteries of the ship would be like, if u blew up a sheild geneaator then the ship cant recharge sheilds.. or if blow up engines then it jus hovers there... itll still fire.. those nubelon frigates are weak... ridicously weak, the corvettes do a lot better... lol |

You can call in fleet reinforcements. I built a massive fleet and some of my units didn't show up right away, they were in the reinforcements slot.
I don't mean their special powers, I meant certain properties as in do you need capital ships for fighters/bombers? In the tutorial, the empire capital shops spawned fighters and bombers. Also, I don't get why empire and rebel fighter squadrons consist of different numbers of ships. |

I thought the single player ground invasion on the planet was pretty hard. Took me to get used to the space battle too, but a lot of fun. I'll wait for a review of this as well. I hope they polish up the graphics too.

I really liked the demo, I'm going to pre-order it sometime this week.
I haven't played any RTS like it, it's a very unique game. anyway, i cleared the tutorial in about and hour, maybe hour and a half. It's really fun. The only thing I don't like is that LucasArts never incorporates cheat codes into thier games so you can't really have a free-for-all crazy battle like you can in other RTS games. |

Well they restrict the numbers of troops you can have on a planet or in space anyways, so cheats might not apply to that cap anyways. Once your units start dying, only then can you bring in reinforcements and only ones you already have built. I'd have liked it more if you could build reinforcements in real-time during a battle.

I've never played any of the Star Wars games but I'm downloading this demo now. I'm downloading from Yahoo Games at 890 KB/sec. I'm looking forward to seeing what the game is like.
Yahoo Games is my new demo download source. They are much faster than any other place I have tried plus they don't have subscriptions and don't even require an email address.

that like a 8meg connection?I have 2.2 which is the best in my area i think. I'm going down the bittorrent route - i can get over 100kB/s but it averages about 60 right now. Its surprising that bittorrent does not get used for large files like game demos as standard by sites like gamespot. It really needs to be used for mmore legitmate purposes to get over the pirate side of it.

My cable company does not cap my cable internet speeds so they are as fast as they can be. It's a small local company. I am thankful that I don't have to deal with the big guys like Comcast.
I played the demo and I thought it was pretty good. I was not expecting it to be a strategy game. It's like AOE. It's actually pretty fun. |

I came across it while using Major Geeks mirror facility if i remember right
Its good to see it getting used I have now finished the tutorials which were enjoyable. Got a bit bored with the main part of the game but have yet to give it a chance. I built lots of ships then attacked the space station en mass. I was victorius but no tactics involved. I didn't bother going on to the planet. next time. What have tactics you lot been using? |

as u can see im a hardcore star wars fan lmao |

well heres an interesting mod, it unlocks locked vehicles and planets, but its ridicously hard, the AI are smart, u gotta keep ready and make sure ur planets are pretty well defended
http://empireatwar.filefront.com/fil..._War/Mods;5502 there are quite a few mods, so u can play the entire galaxy wit empire or rebels, i mean its a demo so glitches and what not but its ridicously fun. can't wait for the retail to come out! |
