Half-Life FPS
Does the orginal Half-Life max out at 60FPS? That's all I seem to be getting.

If your monitor refreshes at 60Hz, you won't be able to see more than 60fps, so it's probably synced to that rate.

Ahh, yup that would be it. Why in other games (BF2, FEAR, etc..) I can get my FPS?

Your graphics card might be able to render more, but they can't be displayed. Some games allow you to set a target frame rate in the video options (I know that from FS2004), maybe it's the same in HL2 as well. RJ

I might be wrong here, but if you have VSync set on the frame rate caps at the montior refresh rate to keep things in sync?

The max fps a monitor, regardless whether it's CRT or LCD, can display, is the refresh rate.
When set to 60Hz, the monitor will redraw the screed 60 times a second, so it can't display more frames in the same time period. Usually LCDs support up to 75 Hz. RJ |

Mine does support up to 75 hz, but it says it's optimal setting is 60. It's fine to run it higher?

It's fine. It's just not necessary as it was with CRTs as LCD don't flicker. Only if you lived in a country where PAL is used on DVDs etc., you should set it to 75Hz, as the movements will be smoother. It's the only real reason to use 75Hz really.
But as you live in the US, leave it on 60Hz. 75Hz would cause NTSC DVDs to stutter more. But if you want to get 75fps instead of 60fps (though I don't think you're gonna see the difference), you can set your monitor to 75Hz, it won't be damaged as it supports that refresh rate. this is something you can try to increase fps. when you are connected to a game server open your console and type in net_graph 1 this command will put a graph on your screen to monitor connection. the fps will be displayed in the upper right hand corner of the graph. If it only display's 60 fps then open console and type in fps_max this will display a setting. if is has the variable of fps_max 72 then change it to fps_max 100.
