It's not like they're insisting you buy VISTA

I think that because of the big following that Halo has many ppl will upgrade to Vista just to play Halo 2 on the PC. It may not be the only reason to upgrade but it may be a deciding factor.

I just hope it plays smoothly

Will current games like COD2 and BF2 be compatible with Windows Vista?

They might be able to make patches for it. but I read about this also, and its really unfair. I hope someone or microsoft themselves invent a p[a]tch of some sort to allow HALO 2 to be played in windows XP. The company should'nt force a good game like that upon consumers to buy another operating system.

My 2'cent, Windows Vista looks bloated.

Its just one way to promote vista. I know i for one will be slow to adopt, i never want to buy an operating system right after it releases just in case it turns out to be another windows ME.

When over 50% of existing computers will be unable to run Vista (not just run slowly but actually will be unable to run it) then yes you have a bloated OS.

well maybe halo2 porting over the pc was a lot easier due to similar programing. but thats jus my views. of course its a marketing technique but u can always run dual boot...

I wouldn't worry too much. Somebody will provide an *alternative* way to play it, especially since only Vista users will be able to run it. I'm not condoning this, just stating the obvious. I for one own Halo 2 for the xbox and think it's overhyped trash - but that's just me. I beat it and felt like I was playing a rehashed version of the original. Watch Halo 3 for the 360 be exactly the same, just prettier. The nice visuals aren't worth it if the game plays like crap IMO. The most joy I got out of any of the Halo's was lugging three televisions into my house, inviting a ton of people over, and playing with 12 people (ran out of darn controllers or we would have had 16 easily) over the system link. Now that was fun...man those wires were everywhere. It's also fun to watch two people and a television try to fit into the front of a tiny two seat pickup truck.

Games like Halo/Halo2 are really designed for party-play. The single player is nice, but multiplayer is where both really shine. As for the fact that they will at least initially require ppl to buy Vista just to play Halo 2 PC is rather pitiful on Microsoft's part as I don't think I've ever heard of a company only releasing a game to work with a yet to be released OS and yet not be backwards compatible. Very disappointing.

One flaw I see to this is that if M$ forces users to have to upgrade to Vista, it will likely cripple Halo 2 sales since upgrading can't really happen on a dime. Speaking personally, im not going to touch vista until it grows up abit (at least till the first Service Pack).

Yes, that is a shame that you won't be able to view high def. content. The question though is, who is really going to make use of this initially?

As long as they the majority of games continue to support XP I'll continue to stay on it as well. No use spending that much money on something that will lack proper security protection. It'll be awhile before they get the kinks worked out of it (like everyone else has already stated).

And if most games go Vista Only, then I will be either forced to build a new pc for the hardware requirements or will build a new one anyway so I can maintain a Fast and Powerful PC with XP now, plus one with Vista.

Vista looks to fancy to be good. Too much stuff to bog it down. Stuff like voice commands to fill in forms on the internet... who needs that when I type nearly as fast as I think, and or speak. And all the other features (like virtual folders) which look nice, but in reality all they do is hog up RAM, forcing new Vista PCs to have huge amounts of RAM even if you are only a person who checks mail and does simple word processing and internet browsing.

Those are just my opinions and thoughts so far, as I cannot really comment because I have not used it yet.

I think an Apple is looking more and more enticing. OS X Tiger already utilizes many of the options that Vista plans to support. It seems to run very smoothly as well. If just more things were compatible with it.

I don't see why they would limit newer games to Vista only. You would think it would merely hurt their sales because you know the majority of users (like the majority of the people in this thread) are just fine with Windows XP. We/they have no reason to upgrade. I don't like it.

Trust me, MS has thought it out enough, Gates and his gang are Masters at marketing. While it may seem like this will leaken sales or what not, they (MS) obviously doesn't think so.

It would be a good time to upgrade (if your hardware is capable), when they end support for XP Home (which I don't think is too far away).

Bill Gates is truly the master of marketing.

He IS the richest man in the world (as of 2005), and has been standing at that rank for the past 10 years...

Link doesn't go to anything substantial (asks you to create the page). He has been one of the richest men in the world, but not the richest in awhile I don't believe (unless he's recently regained the title).

I stand corrected. You were correct, he is indeed the richest man in the world. I thought it would have been a prince from the middle east (oil money). I was off by three spots. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud from Saudia Arabia was #4. It wasn't oil though, but investments in property and other things that earned him his spot. The fourth richest man in the world still isn't a bad guy to be though...
