Installation Problem

Im not sure if this is the right spot for this...but here goes

A co-worker just bought (I think) Doom 3. It has 3 disks. He says the first two install fine but when he inserts the third, the disk spins up ok, but then nothing happens.

He thought that maybe he had a bad disk, and returned it to the store. Tried it again and the exact same thing happens with the new game.

Just wondering if there is something that is on the last disk that could be causing a conflict.

He says he meets all the system requirments.

I told him to clean out his system tray to reduce backround programs, and run drwatson to see if it catches anything.

Anyone else heard of this problem. I doubt it is hardware related since the first two disks run ok, and the problem has been duplicated with another set of disks in the exact manner.

Thanks for any help

Steve

Known problem....

I got this from overclock.net just before it went down before moving to a new server. It should be back up in a few days so your friend can check it out further if he wants.
Go here : http://www.overclock.net/faqs/27087-...tall-help.html and follow any necessary bread crumbs to the new server.

I’m having trouble installing Doom 3. Doom 3 loads CD 1 fine and craps out on CD 2. CD 3 won’t load. My Doom 3 install bombs out. What can I do?

If you’ve already loaded Doom 3, maybe you had a similar experience, maybe not. My install was a real bear. I tried everything. Turning off Autoplay, cleaning the CDs, holding down the left shift key, sticking my right index finger in my left ear, etc, etc. I finally did a manual install and am now enjoying my Doom 3 game. Mars is a great place! (BTW, I saw these instructions on several sites.)

So how do you manually install Doom 3? Read on fragger friend!

Note: This FAQ assumes you actually bought the game and have a valid key.

I found the following instructions on these two sites. I think they’re also probably posted elsewhere as well.

http://www.torrentspy.com/directory....ails&id=107610
http://forums.newdoom.com/archive/in...p/t-23786.html

1) Create a destination folder (for example, c:\program files\doom 3)
2) Insert CD 1.
3) Copy Doom3.exe from CD 1 (Setup\Data\Doom3.exe) to your destination folder.
4) Create a "base" directory in your destination folder (for example, c:\program files\doom 3\base).
5) Copy pak002.pk4 from CD 1 (SetupData\base\pak002.pk4) to the "base" folder.
6) Copy game00.pk4 from CD 1 (SetupData\base\game00.pk4) to the "base" folder.
7) Insert CD 2.
8) Copy pak000.pk4 from CD 2 (SetupData\base\pak000.pk4) to the "base" folder.
9) Copy pak001.pk4 from CD 2 (SetupData\base\pak001.pk4) to the "base" folder.
10) Insert CD 3.
11) Copy pak003.pk4 from CD 2 (SetupData\base\pak003.pk4) to the "base" folder.
12) Copy pak004.pk4 from CD 2 (SetupData\base\pak004.pk4) to the "base" folder.
13) Go to the base folder and create a text file called "doomkey". NOTE: This file should not have any file extension.
14) Open the doomkey file in notepad.
15) Enter your CD Key exactly as it appears on the CD Key sticker. Use all capital letters and do not include any dashes.
16) Save that file.
17) Doom 3 should now be installed on your computer.

Create a shortcut on your desktop from the Doom3.exe file in the folder you created. Insert CD1 and quit at the menu. You can now run Doom 3 from the shortcut you created on your desktop.

Previous instructions found on two sites listed below. I think they’re also probably posted elsewhere as well.

http://www.torrentspy.com/directory....ails&id=107610
http://forums.newdoom.com/archive/in...p/t-23786.html

Note: If for some reason you cannot copy from your CDs (I had trouble copying CD 3 for some reason) you can use BitTorrent and download the iso copies for the CDs. Again, I’m assuming you actually bought the game, blah, blah, blah. Once you get the iso file download, use a program like Undisker (download from Tucows) to extract the pak files from the iso files.
