video card installation

I think the Video Card Install guide here at pcmech needs updating.
It doesn't mention uninstalling the previous cards software and drivers.

I am replacing my ATI Rage Fury Pro with a Visiontek Geforce2 GTS.
I'm using Win 98se on an Iwill KK266 with an AMD 1Ghz.

Here's what I plan to do. Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

1. Boot in safe mode.
2. change video properties to Standard VGA from the ATI.
3. uninstall the ATI software using it's uninstall program or Windows.
4. delete the video card from Device Manager
5. power down, unplug power.
6. swap cards.
7. boot up
8. upon systems recognition of new hardware, I'll direct windows to my drivers on CD.

Do I need to reinstall Direct X?

Thanks in advance!!

You shouldn't have to reinstall DirectX since it's not part of the software for your old video card. It's for display in general.

Yeah, don't have to do anything with direct X, but if you have DX 8.0 or above, you should download DX 8 drivers from the nVidia page. As of now most cards aren't shipping with DX 8 certified drivers.

I think my install has worked out ok. Still need to do some testing.
I had problems uninstalling the ATI drivers and software. I had forgotten that I never did have a clean install of the ATI software before. I had let it go because the drivers installed and I didn't need the ATI bloatware.

I got an error message upon uninstalling the software. I wound up using Regclean to remove everything ATI related that I could find.

Seems to have worked, so far.
