If you list your full specs, it would be easier to find the problem

Are you graphics card drivers up to day?

You can try downloading it from a different site, where did you get the demo from initially?

I noticed that the Far Cry Demo requires DirectX 9.0b to run but VIA UniChrome graphics only support DirectX 8.0. That could be the reason.

Your friend may have only 64MB as well, but if he has a dedicated card or a stronger integrated graphics chipset, it would work for him.

FarCry is a rather demanding game, you may want to look into a video card upgrade.

I have VIA UniChrome graphics and DirectX 9.0c

I do think my freinds intergrated is a 64mb Nvidia chipset.

Try testing for bad ram with Memtest86: http://www.memtest.org/

And make sure your video card drivers are up to date.

Considering Far Cry was a buggy game before it was patched (and some parts are still buggy) it is quite possible that the demo is buggy as well.
