video card problem
I'm trying to install a new radeon card in a pc I just built. When I put the card in the agp slot and hook it up to my monitor and turn everything on, i get a bunch of beeps and then the computer goes ahead and boots up. The problem is that my monitor stays dark. Some people have said I need to install certain drivers to make it work, but my how can I do that when I can't even see whats on the screen?

Have you tried this card in a different pc? Does it work? Have you tried another videocard in the pc you are having problems with? Also, how many beeps do you get and what kind are they, i.e. long or short or both? HTH

One beep and three short beeps assuming this is an Award bios means that it didn't find a vid card.
Two possibilities... 1) Check the BIOS for a setting on which slot to look in for a vid card. Most AGP mobos have an option on this, either AGP or PCI. 2) Make sure you've got the card seated properly. Xayd |

Hi Ronimous,
Same thing just happened to me. Put together a new PC with a ATI Radeon LE for my brother-in-law. Video card worked great on my 3 year old Sony G200, but on his 6 year old 15" IBM monitor (Windows detected the correct model) I got a blank screen. Had to re-start in Safe Mode and change the video adaptor to Standard VGA and the monitor from IBM to Standard monitor. Rebooted and got image back. Changed video adaptor back to Radeon but left the monitor at Standard instead of the IBM and the computer is working okay now. Refresh rate was set to Optimal. I think the Optimal refresh setting (I'm not sure what rate it was using and it didn't allow me to use a specific setting) was too much for his old monitor and it "spazzed out". With the monitor set to Standard Monitor, I could set a refresh rate at 70 mhz so he can use the PC. He plans to get a Viewsonic A70 later this week. How old is the monitor you're using? Cricket
