fqpissed stuck at 640 x 480 please help.

After all the frustration with getting the hard drive up & working im finally stuck in a 640 x 480 screen.Every time i try to up it to 800 x 600 the screen distorts with horizonal lines.I tried every driver known to man.Even pulled a differnt card out of another system and had the same problem.Even updated the bios. This system was working before i took it apart and put it in a different case. The board isnt grounding out on the stand offs i made sure of that.Im wondering if there is a conflict with with something else.I tried with just the vid card and same problem.Im running a BIOSTAR M5ALA MOBO,STB VELOCITY 4400,96 MEGS RAM,AMD K6-2 400.I think theres a windows problem here, unless i cracked the board some how.CD rom dont seem to work right either.ANY IDEAS?.......THANKS AS ALWAYS YOU GUYS ARE A GREAT HELP, SHIVERS

Video driver isn't the problem, not having the proper monitor INF is. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your monitor and download the proper INF file for it. What is happening is that when you go to 800x600, Windows is attempting to use a refresh rate that isn't compatable with your monitor.

I checked their homepage, but they don't appear to list your model. You could probably e-mail them and keep your fingers crossed. If not, you're probably stuck at 640x480. What you can try, and it won't be easy, is to set your monitor to 800x600, then if you can see clearly enough through the lines, go to your adapter settings and see if you can change to a compatable refresh rate. If you can't see well enough and cannot get the INF for it, I'm afraid you're probably out of luck.

A lot of those old monitors wont run at 800x600 at all - but will run at 1024x768. I can't find an inf for it either.
