So! Who got Oblivion?

I'm picking it up at lunch time in between class. So excited! I was on IGN forums last night reading what people were saying about it. It also got a 9.5 in the Official Xbox Magazine. Anyone get it yet?

Should encourage just about everyone who's been fretting about not having the latest cards becuase it looks very good.

I have to say, the graphics are wonderful. They stutter a little bit for me when I'm in battle but they're good. The voice acting is just as good. A lot of character customization too. Loading screens are extremely quick. So far, terrific game.

I don't know. I just clicked on the link posted above and that's how the video displays. Tried it in two different browsers and same thing.

Is that from the Video Nuke? It plays decent for me...a little stutter but decent.

IE 6 is what I was using.

Okay, copy the DVD to a file on the hard drive and see if you can run the install from there.
edit : Do you have an updated XP install ?

The tech support forum at The Elder Scrolls is breaking down, apparently just me and a few thousand other people are all checking it out.
If you're having install problems, or it's something about your particular DVD drive, it's bound to show up there sometime soon.
I'll keep checking on the forum and you should do so as well.

Ah, something's running on your pc that's stoping the install.
What security software do you have?
It's the usual suspect in a case like this.
Also are you running F@H in graphical mode?
With a borderline system it can stop an install cold.
There are other possible culprits so ctrl>alt>del and check things out.

Yes, they're busy at The Elder Scrolls forum.

I think she means rip the DVD to the hard drive and mount the Image created in something like Nero ImageDrive? I would also shut down every program running in the System Tray and see if you can get rid of some unnecessary backround programs to see if that will let you install it. Also, Pam's movie played for me.

I've exited every program I don't need but I still get the error. As for the DVD solution i'm still confused..is it like a copy + paste a file sort of thing?

There's programs out there, that will pretty much make an exact duplicate of what's on the disc, and put it on your harddrive in the form of an "image" file. You then use another program like Nero imagedrive that creates a fake DVD or CDrom drive on the computer and then mount the image you ripped making the DVD rip think it's being played in an actual hardware drive. It should then install like it was on the DVD. I've used DVD decrypter in the past. Here's the link to it. I don't know of any free Image mounting programs. Can someone help?

One more thing to try before I put you through the wringer then.
Read through this : http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108393
and then end task any of the processes if they're running on your rig.
Use windows task manager, remember it's the Processes tab you want.

F@H is folding at home and it's a distributed computing project.
Don't worry about it, you'd know if you installed it.

FR, my plan was a little more basic.
I've noticed that ripped to a folder with Decrypter and installed from there means you still need to put the disk in the drive to play the game but it gets around the problem with virtual cd-rom drives and newer copy protection.
From some posts on The Elder Scrolls forum it's being tried with install problems (There aren't many install problems, most game troubles seem to be of the read the game specs or update your driver/DX variety, and there's some really odd lag. I'll have to wait for the traffic to abate so I can get back to check.).
Another install problem is tied to brands of DVD drives and updating the firmware doesn't fix it.
The problems are alot less then you'd expect but it wouldn't be a 'first day' without them.

I bought it yesterday. I've never played the series, but the hype got me to try a RPG instead of my usual FPS games. The graphics are nice, but NOT as nice as "hyped". There is a visual "line" in the distance where it goes from high texture to low. I've been told this is at a point where the fog starts in Morrowind, so they didn't cover it up the same way this time. Also, there is some funky lighting in spots, that makes the faces look a little funny.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the game, though I'm definately a noob. I'm playing with everything maxed, HDR with no AA or bloom. I've heard of 6600's and 9800's that are "strained" at lower settings, and don't even try with anything below that FWIW.....................................

I was having the same problem and noticed in Task Manager that DXSETUP.EXE was running. I went ahead and closed out the installer and shut down dxsetup as well. After that, I explored the DVD, and went into the directx folder. I ran the directx setup from the disc separately from the installer, and it gave me an updated message. After I received that message, I re-started the Oblivion installer and the game installed without a problem.

Give it a try and see if that works for you.

Is the directX version on the disc newer than anything else out? My installation stopped on the DXSETUP as well but I just closed it off and played.
