Fear
I know fear is a sweet game and it almost made me pee my pants with my logitech z-5500 5.1 surround sound, xfi xtreme music sound card, ati x1900xt gfx card, and dell 24'' screen. But the optimal resolution for the game (something like 1024x...) is different than the native reolution of the dell screen. When I change the resolution in the game to 1600x1200, things seem choppy. Is that choppiness due to the game not being optimal at 1600x1200 or b/c of my gfx card?

Probably just be running it at such a high resolution... Try turning off AA (Anti-aliasing) and see if it goes away. Also, if Soft Shadows is on, turn that off - it'll kill your performance without any real image quality boost.

If I may ask here - how did you alter the resolution of FEAR? I am not a huge fan of 1024*768 either.
And I agree with Blue, I am guesing that it is just using more resources to produce the frames at higher resolutions.. then toss in the eye candy and you get some choppy results and low frame rates.

You can change the resolution to any 4:3 res you want (1024x768, 800x600, 1280x960, 1600x1200, etc) in the options, but if you wanted to change it to your LCDs native res of 1280x1024 you go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR and edit the settings.cfg file. I think that'll do it. |

I have the same Dell 2405 FPW with two 7800's. Running FEAR at the screens native resolution of 1920 x1200 causes my framerate to drop down as low as 40 FPS. The game is just a graphics resource hog. Turn down all the eye candy and that helps.
