Clans
I've been playing cod and css for too long on pubs and wonder if any of the guys here have a decent clan going - either game. The reason I post here is that I know there are sensible people onboard and I cant be arsed to get in with a kiddies clan. I'd just like to see how my pub skills translate to a scrim. So if there is anybody who can give me tips to joining a clan then let me know. I'm not great but I think I can hold my own!

well first look around on the servers. see ones you like, try out with them. usually go for ones that have good ping, or one of their servers is near you (west coast, etc) see how you do with them. they usually state that they are trying out so i guess try out. yes theres kiddie clans but heck u can avoid them... (rather annoying to get pwned by sum 6yr old... and hear that over the mic...*sigh*)
anyways looking for good dedicated servers is one of my tips for you. then look at the clans. look at there site and maybe ummm i cant remember... oh klanwars.com and see if they play.

Thanks for the advice. I suppose I'll just have keep my eye open and try and stay regular on a few UK clan servers. I'm not really up for serious competition just getting a bit bored of the pubs and all the trash talking, tking, team flashing etc...

go on whatever IRC server the euro leagues use (assuming you're in the UK, probably quakenet) and idle in the scrim/pickup game channels and get in on scrims when people need alternates.
best way to learn at the competitive level. you can join a team right off, but anyone who will recruit someone without competitive experience isn't going to be very good. not that there's anything wrong with that, some people play for fun and don't care whether they win or lose, but the vast majority of newer teams start up expecting to win, lose, and then quit. you could just as well avoid all of that drama by playing as a scrim ringer for a few months and then joining a more established team when you catch up to their skill level. If you don't care about points, unlocks, medals, etc., TacticalGamer.com is a site you should check out. They are totally focused on tactics, strategy, and team play. They don't have any ranked servers but their philosophy might interest you. They attempt to create a more real-war environment, i.e., have a role and follow orders at all times. I know they have some members outside the U.S. but you'd have to check their ping on the Tactical Gamer server. Also, after you read their rules, faq, etc. and you like the sound of it, they have a team you can join right away called the TG Irregulars for new people who don't have time to practice with the team on a regular basis.

Again, thanks, I'll have to look into some of the good advice. Though I've been online gaming for a few years, I really don't have a clue what IRC is about.
I tried it years ago on an old Mac and found it impossible to set up so have never looked at it again! Perhaps the modern clients are a bit more user friendly. I'll check out Tacticalgamer.com too. Cheers... |

some clan servers host ventrilo servers so you can chat with them via mike, and xfire (if u join any clan) is really nice. nice feature called join game where one of your friends is in a server (and the server isn't full) and you don't have the gaming running already you just click the button and xfire loads up the game and automatically puts you in the game. i think a lot of clan members have xfire (plus you can IM with out alt tabbing, tho some games you have to.in game IMing lol)
get xfire at www.xfire.com and get ventrilo at http://www.ventrilo.com/ |
