Angry Fire GeForce... causing lockups?

I have had my GeForce AGP card for about 2 months. Since the day I bought it, my computer would freeze periodically. It would just lock up and I couldnt do anything but press the power button. I am not sure but I think my geforce card is the problem. I tried installing all the latest drivers, but vision tech has very little to work with. Thus the problem persisted even with the latest driers. I was wondering if anyone could help solve my problem? Here is my system information...

When does the system lock up, are you using a certain application? Also have you checked for conflicting irq's. Another suggestion is to upgrade your version of direct X.

The systems locks up in web pages and in paint program mostly, but it has aslo locked up when just moving the mouse accross the screen. The IRQ is set to 10 which I have looked and is the same as my phillips sound card. Could thisc ause lock ups? If so, how do I change the number of the sound card or graphics card? I am going to upgrade my DirectX in a few. Think I might have tried that but tis worth a shot.

I would bet that your sound card is in the PCI slot next to the video card - move it to another slot because that slot shares IRQ with the AGP slot.

Your right it is the PCI slot next to the AGP. If I move it i'll have to move the PCI modem to that slot. Is that going to cause a problem?

Yes it will. Give us a list of all PCI cards in your system along with current slot and IRQ. What motherboard do you have?

I just noticed - you are running Win 95 - AGP and fast AMD support sucks in 95, consider upgrading to 98.

From bottom to top I have...

a Creative Modem Blaster no IRQ.
Then I have a Phillips Rythemic Edge Sound Card on IRQ 10.
Then In the AGP slot I have the GeForce 2 IRQ 10.

Is that all you have is 2 PCI slots? Please post the manufacturer and model of the motherboard.

Heh - that was 5 months ago - that sure looks like a PC Chips board.

Options are as follows:

1. Remove the modem and move the sound card to the second slot. Use an external serial modem. Make SURE the onboard sound and video are disabled.

2. Uninstall and remove the Philips sound card and use the onboard audio.

3. Get a real motherboard.

Once again - we need more details. Is this an AT or an ATX case? Is your Athlon a slot or socket processor? Are you using the onboard Ethernet controller?

EPOX 8KTA3 - $98.50 at http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/doc/8kta3.html - assuming you have a case big enough for it..... you do now have a "mini" board.

I am not sure if my case is big enough... I ahve room for 7 slots. But I think the Epox board has 8. What is the next step down for the 8KTA3?

It's big enough. There's the "regular" atx boards with 7 slots (on the 8kta3 the ISA shares with the last PCI) and then there's the minis with 2 or 3 usually.
The only thing you may have to worry about is your power supply, but unless it's an Emachine, that too is easily replaced.

So should I look for the "mini" board or the regular atx board? Can you give me a link to which board I need.

Thank you very much for your help. And no its not an E Machines (thank god).

No, the 8kta3 only comes in 1 size. If your case has 7 slot openings, you're ok. I just built 2 systems with this board, and I like it a lot.

Did you order 2 boards? The 8k7a is amd-761 chipset and uses DDR memory. The 8kta3 is via chipset and uses sdram. The 8k7a has no ISA slot (don't know if you require this).
