Games for a bedridden non gamer ?
I jumped off a boat onto the dock and wrecked my leg last Friday. Now in hospital. Put in steel pins. 6 to 8 weeks to walk, 4 months to drive a car.
Now I hear that "87% of all boating accidents happen on the dock" I have never played games much. Soon lost interest in early ones like pacman/frogger etc. and Age of Empires would take too long to build up to the interesting part. Can someone recommend something to entertain me for an hour during the day? Hearts is my only idea. My old Thinkpad is 400 Mhz,and the desktop is 1.4G.bth are Win2K. Any other non PC ideas to stop me dieing of boredom ? Cheers, Chris |

Hey, half the fun is in building your colony in Age of Empires
![]() If you're looking for a single player game, try the Need for Speed series? (Gets repetitive after awhile, though) Get well soon :P |

There is a free RPG called Dink Smallwood. Just right click tone of the images below the "Download From:" header and Save the installer to HDD.
There are literally hundreds of free mods (called DMOD's) also available on the site. It's a pretty old game, but really noteworthy in that it is the creation of one man, and is totally free. The game world is literally huge, and each DMOD is a story in itself. Try it out and see. You may have a little trouble stopping at one hour, though.

www.runescape.com
Not the greatest MMORPG, but it is free to use and pretty addicting (at least for me it was).

Games mean different things to different generations, Chris. I'm still old fashioned enough to enjoy jigsaw puzzles.www.jigzone.com
I know 2000 doesn't come with the same games as XP so maybe you'd like to try Spider Solitaire (don't laugh youngsters!) Here's a free download. http://www.geocities.com/spidersolitare/ And if you'd like to play a simple daily crossword, try this one. My local newspaper links to this. http://www.uclick.com/client/mil/pf/ Feel better soon, Chris. |

Look on some of the Abandonware sites. Although some of them have debatable legallity, Abandonia is clean. Best of all, they will run on pretty much any computer.

Sounds like you are not into the current RPG's or FPS games. There are tons of casino games available such as poker, roulette, blackjack etc.
There are also many traditional board games such as Chess and Monopoly and many others...many of which you can play against other people online. You can also get for practically free now the old Atari type games such as Pacman and Asteroids. There are also tons of strategy games out there which work your mind more than they work your wrist. All of Sid Meier's games come to mind..and SimCity and The Sims and all the expansion packs. You enjoy flight simulator games? Those games actually require some study of how an aircraft works and knowledge of procedures. I still enjoy flying a 737 under the Golden Gate Bridge. Sorry about your leg. I hope you are feeling better soon. I run a boat for a living and you are not the first person who has busted his ass jumping from a boat onto a dock....so don't feel too bad. I don't advise it...but that does not help you any now. What kind of boat do you have?..or were you sailing for Capt Bligh who told you to jump?

Sorry about your situation...
Check these out... http://hp.wildgames.com/ECS/htdocs/H...FUKIOAodoAbZ-w There's a lot of free demo games, and they are mostly fairly simple to learn and get into. I liked "Fairies"....which is sort of like a Tetris game. |

Thanks again-Some quick comments:
Being bedridden , in pain, and under the influence of pain killers, makes you very bad tempered and makes you very impatient. Not good for gaming. PR's suggestions led me to try many crosswords from newspapers all over the world.Too much concentration is needed.Pam- My eyes are burning from reading the screen.. I may print off some old novel- reading paper seems to be easier. DavidM- I'd just bought the 2002 ProLine 32 a few days before , and forgot that I was a geezer when I jumped the 4 ft gap to the dock with both hands full of tools and parts. Hadnt been near a boat since Miami to Jamaica races in the 1970's. Thanks to all- Card games seem to be the best so far for me-not too much concentration needed, and they can be paused and continued later. Cheers, Chris |

Get Civilization 2 or 3. Both should run on your systems, and they are a great deal of fun. I accidently spent 8 hours on a game of Civilization 4 yesterday.

Hi Parangles,
Hope you are recovering well. www.wikipedia.com is a great site, if you don't know it already. You can both learn stuff and contribute information. Also lots of links that can lead you off into interesting places. Also Google Earth, of course. BTW I had a wierd accident a couple of weeks ago - nowhere near as bad as you, but I was out cycling, and while doing about 20mph I got intercepted by a low-flying swan that had just taken off from the nearby river and ended up sprawled all over the road! Don't know who was more surprised, me or the swan!! Best wishes, Chris |

I play this game all the time on the difficult level winning around 1 in 4 games Really sorry to hear about your accident Chris, hope you get better soon. I have a copy of "Sliding Blocks" written by some Russian guy years ago, it is very addictive and plays better on older machines like 98, ME and W2K, I'll see if I can find a link for a download for you if not I can send it to you. Regards. Richard.
