Just a heads up here.
The latest nVidia drivers, optomized for Oblivion, break the game so you'll need to go back to the previous set. ATI's cards however need the latest drivers so if you haven't got the 6.4 catalyst drivers that's likely your problem.

There was noticeable improvement for me after installing the 6.4s, oblivion runs a bit smoother.
