Doom 3 frustration

I decided to load up Doom 3 for the heck of it and cannot set the resolution higher that 640 X 480 in any quality. I should be able to run it maxed out. Every time I set the resolutions and eye candy, then apply changes, then exit out to restart. The setting is still 640 X 480 every time. All drivers and the game are updated. I cant even get the default settings back. Am I missing something?

Doom 3 : # Medium Quality - Defaults to a resolution of 640x480 and is intended for graphics cards with 128MB of memory and systems with 512MB of memory. Although textures are compressed with Medium Quality, they retain their original size. More sound effects are also used.

It sounds like the game install isn't seeing your computer properly and is insisting on the default.
You might need nothing more than to uninstall and reinstall the game or you might need to try another set of drivers, older ones, or the Omegas.
What drivers did you have installed the last time the game ran well for you?

I had this problem as well. I THINK all I did was reinstall it. It was so long ago though.

Well I figured it out. The problem was the anti-aliasing. I was setting it for 8X at high quality and that would cause the default back to 640X480. For whatever reason Doom 3 doesn't like that setting with my vid card or current ATI drivers. I bumped it down to 4X and saved and exited the game. Opened doom 3 and wha la! The settings were saved. Thanks for the imput everyone.
