Ventrilo causing lag in CS:S

okay when i play CSS with the clan we use Ventrilo. For those who don't know Ventrilo is voice communications. Headset and mike. Wehn i hit the "Push to talk" button my ping spikes to 300-450ms. but sometimes it doesnt raise the ping at all. What can i do to fix it. Help. I tried googleing it but couldn't find anything. And i am by no means very informed about how to use vent settings.
HELP!
thx

Are you the only one it's doing it to? Also, is it a clan vent? (One owned and operated by the clan). If so, is it running off the same server that you're playing on?

Nope the CS server and Vent server are from totaly different providers. I tried updateing my router firmware, and ethernet drivers and that didn't fix it. And im the only one who has the problem. I was told to try a new ethernet card, I have the intergrated ethernet that comes with the ASUS P4P800SE motherboard, Yukon o believe. Should i try that? Or are there console commands for CS that can fix it?
thx

try this program its free http://www.pingplotter.com/
ping both your servers and see what the ping is. i have a friend that lives up in canada and for the past 3 months he's ping to my servers has been high like that. and everybody else that got on were normal. i rented a server that was in chicago and he got on fine till last nite, he;s ping was way up on that one and was back to normal on the cod2 server i run out of my house. dont know whats going on with the routing on the net. if you try the ping test you will see how many hops it takes to get to your servers and see where the bad hop is. if that is your problem.

in Ventrilo up at the top above the window where people are connection, it gives a ping report. What ping are you showing when this happens?

Myself I play World of Warcraft and we also have a hosted ventrilo server.
we have noticed some Hosted servers are much better then others.

Also, the lag you are experiencing, it is both in Ventrilo and CS at the same time, or just one of them?

Its just in css. But sometimes vent lags out real bad, 20000ping, but usually vent runs at 50-70 ping.
