Talking Max Payne

Anybody playing this yet?
I got it this weekend, and so far I like it.
Cool new moves, kind of like the Matrix slow motion stuff, really cool. Better have a hellified system to run it on.
On my 1 gig tbird w/ 512MB ram and GeForce2, it sometimes bogs down when there are a lot of enemies on my screen shooting at me.
Don't try running this game on a P2, you will have problems.
Too bad there is no multiplayer.
Reminds me of Soldier of fortune.

You have to jump on the train and follow him.

just picked it up today and i think it is very awesome eye candy although they wore the Matrix slo-mo thing out. I find it kinda easy to die tho heh, no armour like in half life/unreal/soldiers of fortune. Whats with the subliminal pill popping anyways...take pain killers and kill lots of people...heh.

I was really annoyed with this game it was excellent fluid and exciting - and the dream sections are genius (although they can get boring) but then all too soon it was over and this is what annoyed me...

It took me TWO days to complete it!!! thats far too short just as you are really getting into it it just ends and thats it and the last level isn't that good either - the cathedral with the evil psycho is the best bit in the game...

That's why I'm buying fewer and fewer games lately. Soldier of Fortune was fun, but once you got past the gore factor it wasn't that great a game really, and multiplayer is pathetic.

Rune was fun for awhile too, but again, mutliplayer not that great and it was beaten pretty easily.

Sacrifice I think has been the best bang for the buck in games that I've gotten in awhile. I actually played through it a couple of times to beat the game serving different gods, because the video scenes and extra spells were worth it. But, Shiny Entertainment has been very slow with bug fixes in multiplayer, and all of the patches they'd released the last time I checked completely corrupted the game in Win2k.

Oh well, Unreal 2 will be out soon enough, and UT will hopefully keep me busy til then .

Enjoying the game. I'm at the restaurant after the docks level.

The game looks good and the controls and camera angles are spot on.

The slow motion function is good fun but it makes killing the opponents too easy.

Like all good games, it reminds me of other good games. The engine reminds me of Nocturne and the slow motion close-ups of opponents dying remind me of The Devil Inside. Some of creepy sound effects and nightmare sequences have a touch of Shadowman.

Presently I'm also revisiting old friends in Doom (looks good with mouse and 3DFX addon from Doomworld) in preparation for the second coming - Doom 111.

Ok,

You've caught me out - I was just trying to wax lyrical and be poetic. That sort of behaviour will not be tolerated on these weighty forums yes.

"Third coming" it is.

Why is that double-barrel shotgun soooo satisfying to use even after all this time? You can almost feel the kickback. Only the weapons in Blood 11 (sawn-off shotgunn akimbo anyone?)and SoF have managed to recapture that old feeling for me.

But then, I'm just a geeky old gamer.

Just finished the game-- a really fun game and pretty easy- at least on Fugitive level. However I dislike the 'surprise your dead' factor that most of these games have. For instance, bad guys seem to appear out of nowhere, or respawn in rooms you have already cleared. I also dislike the factor whereby many (but not all) of the bad guys do not exist until they see you or you cross some line. For instance, in one point of the game you 'know' a bad guy is behind a cloth partition, so you lob a few grenades behind it and shoot the Desert Eagle at it, however, when you move forward, the unharmed bad guy pushes the partition over and starts shooting.

Its fun to replay sections of the games to try out different ways to kill the bad guys. Anyone else used the pyrotechnics machine on the rock band stage to kill one the baddies?

The game on the next difficulty is more difficult in that the guys are more accurate and preform more damage when they do hit you. I dont believe that there are actually more guys. One of the hardest parts in the game, is the "bat level" where you escape the Baseball Bat Boy serial killer and have to kill about 8 guys with a bat. The key is to club 2 in the hall (not the first 2), then club the rest as they try and enter the boiler room. Dont try to get out the guns you've collected, they're way low on ammo and wont do you any good. Personally, I was so creeped out in the satanic lair behind the club. His rambling gets a little old and melodramatic, but the soundtrack to this game witholds a lot of the theme.

I too experience guy knowing where you were automatically (I'd run way ahead of them into a different room, hide, and they'd all run to the exact point I was at, shooting me), but it's not too big of a problem. Also, dont forget to use the roll. Holding jump + strafe will make you roll in real time to dodge bullets. You use it just like bullet time.

Well,

It was nice while it lasted, but it didn't last long.

Pity the good graphics didn't extend to the sky and some distant backgrounds. They looked as they were painted by a ten year old in watercolour for some old Doom level.

I won't be playing it again at the different difficulty levels.

Instead I'll load up AvP2 Demo for some real action and wet pants.

I played the came a lot, used a few mods, and I still think the replay factor is cool. But you have to try it on the hardest mode and it gets Really intense in some parts. I still think that it needed more gore. I used a mod that gave it more gore, but it still was nothing compared to SOF. I can't wait for SOF 2.
