Question old 3d card suggestion

a friend of mine wants to play some 3d games on his computer
i agreed to put one in for him, but i don't know which card would be a good match for his *ahem* pentium 100 with *cough* 32 megs ram.
and since he's a cheap hoser, price even is as important as performance
he's got only pci slots on his board, and about the newest game he wants to play is thief: the dark project. which rocks //end plug
any suggestions?

what would also go well if he splurged and got a new mb+cpu in the 233-300 range?

and no, my "friend" isn't my excuse for having a crappy computer.
i have a timex-sinclair for my fits of nostalgia

For a graphics card I had very good experiences with my ATI Rage Pro on my Pentium 133.

Also the Voodoo 2 would be a good choice, but since its only an add-on card he must have one free PCI slot.

As for the mainboard+cpu change: Is this a standard PC or a brand like Compaq, HP, Dell, etc. ? These machines are "proprietary", so a mainboard change needs a case change as well.
Anyway, in 233-300 MHz range I'd go with ATI Rage 128, nothing below.

If he's that cheap, an ATI Xpert 98 would be just fine. That's an 8 meg Rage Pro-based card.

hey guys
thanks for the suggestions
i'll start looking around for a cheap ati card now

as for the proprietary problem, it's a gateway full-tower
i've done a couple mobo swaps, and it looks like the case should
take regular form factor AT motherboards. having learned my lesson
with both a compaq and a packard bell i tend to check that now
