To all BF2 players...I need your help

I've been away from the game for nearly a year now and am trying to install / patch it. I downloaded the 438 mb 1.3 patch and installed it on a fresh copy of BF2, but when I go to run it I get a nice black screen...and that's it.

Am I supposed to get any prior patches first before installing the 1.3 one? This isn't the incremental patch, it's the big one which I thought was the full thing.

Nvm, I got it working. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions so quickly. Oddly enough, my cable modem had come unplugged initially, and zonealarm was blocking BF2 from accessing the net but wasn't telling me. So everything was at a stalemate. Plugged it in and it's working better than ever - they actually fixed the in-game menus with this new patch. Cool.

That's what happened to me too. I knew it was Zonealarm as it done this for other programs and the notification comes up, but games like BF2 hide the zone alarm warning in the background. And for some reason Alt+Tab didn't want to work.

Glad to hear you figured it out.
