Counter-strike style lightweight game

Heey. I've had an idea for quite a while to create a counterstrike style shooter that is only a few megs large, and that is free. I came across a program called Game Maker and it seems quite possible to do just that.

I would like to hear your thoughts, comments and anything that will help me decide if it is worthwhile to pursue this.

If you are well aquainted with Game Maker, or game development in general and you are interested in teaming up with me for this then that would be great too. I have a feeling it would be quite popular, as many people like playing online shooters and a free lightweight one would be nice to kill the time. Things such as servers I can work out down the track but I just want to focus on the basics for now and decide if its worth it.

Either post here or email me at polony12@hotmail.com with anything.

Thanks

Meh, game maker is great for making little 2D platformers, if thats what you want to do. I don't think you could have servers for it though, online Game Maker games.. I don't know about that. If you want to create a real game, don't use a "Game maker" and learn C++. That'll take lots of time, and learning though.

Spirit has the point. Not to hamper your enthusiasm, but using a program like Game Maker severely limits your power, and what you can do artistically.

The closer you get to the coding of the game (that is, programming, without using an interface or object-oriented programming), the more you can do, and the closer you can get what YOU want.

Agreed with the previous posters, but I'm also wondering if Game Maker might be a really good think to look into. Perhaps it will give you a taste of what goes into making a game, and help you get your feet wet in that arena. That way you can decide if it is really worth diving head first into learning the requisite programming languages for coding an online shooter.
