anyone playing FEAR?

I've figured out how to kill most of the bad guys so far but I'm having trouble knocking off the flying things shooting at me. If I hit 'em with the shotgun several shots will kill 'em but I can't find enough shells to kill em all.

May I suggest cheats? Just to get you through the tough parts so you can get on with the game. No sense in dying over and over just for a 20 second cutscene eh?

Is this title any good? I keep forgetting to look into it.

I like it but it's overrated - but that's not to say it isn't any good. The mutliplayer kinda sucks though, so don't buy it for that. They dissappointed me on the last level...it was too cliche (a la Doom 3)...but I won't ruin it. It'll give you goose-bumps...so beware. I think I ought to give it a run through again.

Goose-bumps are an understatement!!! I can NOT play that level in a room in the dark by myself. Waaaay too creepy.

I like the game a lot. There was some model inaccuracies as I've noticed something like a rubber-necking effect when I kill enemies in slo-mo.

I have no recollection of flying laser shooting things though. That's probably a good thing as it suggests there aren't too many. Ah, now I kinda remember. If they're clustered, use a stickie grenade and pop off the rest.

I'll try it when it comes out for the 360. Not sure if my computer could handle it or not.

Your computer can handle it. You obviously won't run on max settings, but you should be able to have most things on medium. The game can/will autodetect your setup for you if you wish. Give it a try, it's a cool game.

Ya, your computer can handle it. Mine (P4 FSB 400 @ 2.4, 768 MB RAM, and Radeon 9700Pro) could play it with very acceptable frame rate at 800x600. With your video card, I'm sure you could play it no problem at 1024x768. I don't mind it playing it at "small" resolutions. 1024x768 is way better than you could get on your TV (unless it's HD of course).

It should play pretty good. I'd say my x800xl is a pretty close match, give or take a few FPS.

I can run it at 1280x960, 2x AA (no soft shadows), everything else max at a steady average 35-40fps. Pulling back on a few of the other settings takes it up to a more acceptable 40+ FPS.

Steuy, how's goose-mountains?? I remember seeing blueprints around in different parts of the level...and you're wondering what they are and then they show up. I'm pretty sure those were in this game...(maybe I'm thinking of another game...)

If you turn the gore off (which I do, cause the amount of gore is a bit extreme), there's a glitch where a person dissapears if you shoot them point blank or they explode. Normally they blow up into bits, but the gore turns that off.

I think it's pretty good. Not up there with Half Life 2 though. It is creepy. I sometime find myself pulling back from the desk with arms stretched out. Hope no one is watching when I do that.lol I added another 512 of ram and mine acutally plays pretty good. I turned back on the chunks flying off the walls and shadows. I cheated through the flying things. They're in the level where I'm trying to get to the roof and meet the chopper. There's too much playing in the dark to suit me. That's one thing I liked about Far Cry, you didn't have hardly any of that. So I do like the game OK, and Best Buy has lowered the price a bit already.

My other sticking points are, as you said, it's 100% in dark...and at points, it's like "ugh...more of this?". Try the demo Force...like Nuk said, see for yourself...You'll get shivers out of the demo.

What is Force? I mean, what's the premis? I just got a disc from Maximum PC and I haven't looked to see what demos are on it yet, it may be there.

I was referring to a member, Force Flow...he was wondering if its any good.

Not sure about a console command, but you can run the in-game benchmark (I think it's under Advanced options, Test Video Settings - it's in the options somewhere) that'll tell you your average FPS.

Blue - you're right; I played a few levels and eventually found some blueprints =).

Also, I still barely used any firearms in killing the flying laserbots. I used my blue stickie grenades, and when those ran out, I used anti=personnel mines. I hit slo-mo, fired off the anti-personnel and then shot it with either shotgun or handgun. Shotgun doesn't work too well for this - I missed. But then the laserbots came at me again and the mine went off. But yea - try to use explosives as the firearms don't do enough damage.

I finished the game a few days ago. Just got my pc upgraded and,BAM, the game ends. I didn't like the way it ended much. It won't make my top ten list.

The overal gameplay is decent, but they're trying to make people hang on to suspence for whenever a sequel is released. I hate that mentality too, but it seems that a lot of FPS games are following similar paths ala HL, HL2, Doom, etc.

It was a pretty good game (overrated though), and I thought the ending was strange...a la Doom.

The ending "got me" a little. If it were a movie, I would have seen it coming a mile away, but I didn't expect it in a game, though. I'm a horrible game player, so I'm happy I finished it (and HL2) !! I was pressed for time when I did DooM and got to the end, but after about a dozen tries spread out over about 2 weeks, I never did finish....

LOL!! Yes, absolutely right-on, tomster2300!!! I'll have to try again. I really shouldn't have even played it at that time period, as I got at most 20 minutes a night at it. It took over a month of “spare time” to get to the end (including weekend time, which wasn't much either). So, when I did get to the end, I still didn't have time to "get into it." That’s what I get for being in a hurry and not waiting until I could enjoy it.

TR, the ending really isn't much, but opens things up for the expansion pack. The final boss was a little difficult at first, but once you figure it out you're basically running in circles and shooting in Hell.
