Play FPS or Play RTS?

hey guys (and gals) I was looking to buy a good game with some great graphics and a solid mutiplayer. im stuck between choosing a FPS or an RTS. any suggestions?

For RTS I like games like Rome total war with massive armies duking it out, but for fps i like war games, i was thinking BF2, but the no blood thing is trowing me off to buying it.
if medevil total war 2 was out now i would definatly buy it for my first and new custom pc.
all my components are coming tommorow

Oblivion is a very good and HUGE RPG if you want some variety. BFME 2 is a good RTS as well as Star wars Empire at War. As for FPS, i would suggest FEAR or HL2 (with episode 1 aswell). Valve (makers of the HL series) are doing an offer for all the valve games in their valve pack through their steam delivery client for $80

If your computer is up to it the multi-player games in Prey (FPS) and Rise and Fall : Civilizations at War (RTS) look to be pretty good and the single player game is good in both.
If you ever strayed into RPG territory, and enjoyed the stay, then the Diablo like Titan Quest promises to be a good one for multiplayer as well as single gaming.

Check out the reviews for the games and see if they look interesting for you.

Prey never seemed to meet the expectations i had for it, but for online gaming two words: -

Counter Strike

Indeed. You can buy a package for $60 usd for Half Life 2, HL 2 Deathmatch, Counter-Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source...

On top of that... Half Life 2 has a prodigious modding community with tons of free games.

You normally go into controls and set up a button to enable the microphone, and then you can press it in game to use.

CS is good, but BF2 is also very good

bf2, Counter Strike 1.6. graphic wise... it doesn't get that near source... but by realism.... recoil and everything is better. source, the bullpup i think it has a 35 round clip or a 30 round. fires 41 rounds... for some odd reason. so some issues, i still enjoy practicing on source with some bots tho.

RTS, a solid community behind frozen throne, excellent ladders and leagues... my friend is getting me good so i can start playing competitive.

umm what else is good, o i enjoyed rise of legends... dunno how good muti tho. Dawn of War was a lot of fun...

and of course the space battles of Empire at war, and that new expansion due to come out soon, force corruption....

hmmm

what else? unreal 2004 someone mentioned that... tho not very graphic demanding, especially with something like what you have.

Day of Defeat Source... hated CoD2... jus too buggy.... idk

mr. spartan i have bought all the games you have listed, except dawn of war, bf2, and CoD2.
i was going to pick up battle feild 2 , but i downloaded the demo 1st, i think its a great game, but to me the graphics in that game, dont offer that much eye candy. not to metion i hate the fact that there is no blood animation when you get shot.

I see this thread leaning toward FPS, but you wanted some RTS games in your inital post. Age of Empires 3 is a great game. You will NOT be dissappointed. Also, there is a game coming out in a month or so called Company of Heroes that looks insanely promising. Go to PC Gamer or google for a demo.

As for FPS, it depends on what kind of game you're looking for, Online or Campaign. Very few, if any, FPS have a good campaign and online play.

If you want campaign, Call of Duty 2 and Gun are two great games, but both lack good online play (gun doesn't even have it).

If you're looking for online play, Battlefield 2 and Counter Strike Source are good games (and if I'm correct, they don't have campaign modes, right?).

That's right. No campaigns.

They are geared for multi-player action.

BF2. DoD amd DoD:Source, PoE2 -for online FPS. Singleplayer is just a waste of time for me.

Fear

Sierra just released a free online play version of FEAR. You can get it here:

http://www.joinfear.com/main?act=register1

I highly recommend it. Lots of people love CS, but in my opinion it's for the 'leets only. People have been playing that game for what, 7-8 years?

FEAR is a really fun teamplay game though.

counter strike is apparently the shooter of choice, though i found a copy at a local gamestore for 3.99 for the xbox, so... maybe it is too outdated now? I wouldn't know.

One of the best RTS games I have ever played is Age of Mythology, the titans expansion. You can get the gold package now and it will maybe cost 40 bucks new, and well worth it. The visuals aren't anything like morrowind or anything fancy, more like command and conquer, but better. The game is from 2003 i believe, and I can run it just fine on even low-end systems online, and I am currently still stuck on dial-up until my new build is...well, built (and i decide i need a new internet).

I have been playing Age of Mythology for years, and it hasn't lost a hint of gameplay, if anything, it got better. There are a thousand and a half different ways to play it, and different maps + custom/created maps add even more gameplay. I would expect Age of Empires 3 to be the same exact way, though I haven't played that yet either.

Sometimes I'm good in CSS (20-2 in pubs) or there are times I'm just plain being called a noob. Lol, such a fun game. My 6600 can rock up to 100fps. :0

100fps in CS:S with a 6600? That amazes me.
Still yet, source is a great fps. Can't go wrong there, even if the learning curve is insanly harsh.
I'm having a ton of fun with the multiplayer of Battle For middle Earth II. So much fun, if not a little straightforward.
If you have a bunch of friends who play, nothing is more fun then sitting around and doing a 3v3 Good vs evil multiplayer fight on BfmeII. Mm MM mmmmm...

Yeah, no lie, I have even gotten above 100fps when there is no action, but usually it stays around 60-100. I have my settings on medium, but even on high, I have seen it makes little to no difference. That just goes to show that maybe you don't always need that 'top of the line video card' for Counter-Strike.
