Problem with F.E.A.R, Quake 4 and Doom 3

Ever since i got my big display, wich goes to 1600 resolution, i noticed that in those games i cant choose the option to play at that resolution. I understand that i really wont be able to play fear at that high res and it would be laggy but i cant even choose that resolution. It stops at 1280 when im going down the list. Has this happened to anyone? Its impossible the game doesnt support it because they had it in benchmarks and tests that were at 1600 by 900.

Thanks

Did you install the monitor from it's (hopefully) included CD? If not, see if they have the files on their Web site.

Sorry, I haven't been around. I don't have any other ideas of the top of my head. I've got FEAR and DooM so I could fire them up and see if I have the same problem, but my system isn't that strong and I'd probably get 4 FPS at 1600x1200, if it runs at all. Also, my monitor doesn't even support 1600x900.

Most games only include 4:3 aspect ratios (800x600, 1024x768, 1280x920, 1600x1200). *Usually* you can find a config file where the resolution settings are where you can change to whatever you want. You could do, 1211x678 if you wanted - not that it's recommended though

Anyhoo, you coudld probably google "custom resoultion for xxxxx" or something to that effect and find out where that config file is.

This the tech help board over at the FEAR forum : http://forums.vugames.com/forum.jspa...D=168&start=30

You'll have to do a manual edit : http://forums.vugames.com/thread.jsp...318005&#318005

Chances are you'll need to do the same in the other games as well.

F.e.a.r.

I have a Radeon 9700 Pro. Is FEAR not compatible with that? I've heard that ATI video cards are questionable with FEAR, but it works perfectly with Doom 3 and my Unreal Tournament games (GOTY, 2003). I downloaded and installed the 1.2 update hoping it would make a difference, but my computer will play it for a few minutes and then the screen will freeze and go black and then about a minute later the computer will just suddenly reboot.

No, ATI vid cards in general don't have a problem with FEAR that I've heard. Mine works just fine (AIW800). Not sure how well a 9700 can handle it, though. Even with the 800, I can't run with settings too high. Have you D/L'd and installed the latest drivers for it?

Used an X800XL and a X1800XT with FEAR and both work fine (granted, I haven't used an older gen card).
