Unhappy Gif to Bitmap?

Afternoon all, I was wondering if anyone can tell me a little about images?
I have a couple of pic,s that are Gif and Jpg,and would like to be able to
edit them in Win98se "Paint". But Paint does,nt use Gif,Jpg only Bitmap.
Can I make them a different format?
Thanks Pot....

Gifs and jpgs are compressed formats. Bitmaps are not. You could use something like Irfanview or the Kodak imaging program which is part of 98SE to convert them, but you would be better off getting an image editing program that can work with a variety of formats without having to convert them.

I've always opened jpg and gif files in IE and saved them as bitmap (.bmp) then just by using Internet Explorer. HTH

Use Paint. It is simple, free (shipped with Windows) and converts gif and jpeg to bitmap very very well.

Edit: I read that your Paint isn't able to open gifs and jpegs.
I too have Win98SE, and it is possible.
You may look into Windows Update Website for an update or so. On the other hand I never went there. Can't actually tell you why the difference.

My paint doesn't open jpg's either (don't know about gif...I'm guessing no too) (OS is win98se). That's why I've always used IE (it's about the only thing I use it for....)

You can use this freeware "VCW VicMan's Photo Editor" from www.download.com
It support 32 image formats which I believe includes gif, bitmaps and jpg
