Does anyone know if current PC games (UT, CS, SS, etc.) will work with Windows XP? I haven't seen any articles addressing this issue.

Since XP is using the same kernal as Win2k I'm pretty sure they've integrated the updates into the source. So hopefully there won't be any incompatibility issues with it.

acctually XP has an emmulator feature that should make it ideal for running older games. XP should allow you to "emmulate" all the previous versions of Windows and even most versions of DOS. However, I've only read a few article on it, but apparently it works pretty well.
If this works as well as the articles claim it does, it will be a real plus and probalby be the only reason I'll get XP. Have you ever tried to get an old DOS game to run? It's a real pain because the sound drivers usually are difficult to install. The emmulator in XP should really help out. |

One of the security problems pointed out by Steve Gibson http://grc.com with XP is the Open Socket feature and the fact that all users have administrator priv's. It is this open socket feature that is key to XP running games and other software that was designed for Win98.
At his site he has a freeware program that will close and open this security hole at will. |
