ATI AIW Install Problems

Is there a trick to installing these cards? I went by the instructions for the AIW 128 Pro AGp on a new build, nothing else installed but video card, OS (Win98),and MOBO Drivers, and after installation I am getting a RED screen full of wavy lines.

It almost sounds like you either have a bad connection from the monitor to the video card, or a bum card.

The Card works fine until you install the software. I also got a Window up when I started in safe mode that listed at least 2 dozen Windows files that needed to be repaired.
I am wondering if the, so called, easy install is the problem and if any of you have installed one of these in a more manual type install.
I know I do not have any conflicts since the vid card was the only one installed at the time.
