Caesar IV installation problems

I finally chose Caesar IV, but I'm now having problems installing the game. It will go through its entire install until it gets to the "Install MySQL ODBC Connector" which it says it needs to play online. When I click through the options it says I already have an installation in progress and must close it before trying this one. Even when I click cancel and finish the Caesar installation and go back to it (through the option in the start up menu of cd 1), it still says the same thing.

Also, when I click on the .exe to play the game it says I still need .NET 2.0. It supposedly installs it during the full installation, but I guess it's just skipping over it. So, I went back to that menu again after finishing the installation of the game and clicked "Install .NET 2.0" by itself. It goes through its own little menus, then when I click next to start it I get the same message - you must stop your current installation before installing this.

What in the world is going on here? I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything once, and now I'm going to try and reboot. Any suggestions?

Hmmnn...
They have a very full tech forum for the game.
Start here with the install problem search : http://forums.vugames.com/search.jsp...5&rankBy=10001

Full tech forum here : http://forums.vugames.com/forum.jspa?forumID=222

Also there's already patch out for the game and it's for the on-line feature : http://forums.vugames.com/thread.jsp...2549&tstart=15

I would get .NET 2.0 from here : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

This one won't have any install problems.

Thank you pam for the links. I rebooted the pc and that fixed the "quit current install...", then I retried the .NET 2.0 from the cd and it worked. After this the game played great.

The game runs pretty well on my computer once I set the shadows from soft to normal (I turned all the sliders to maximum and all the other graphics to high). I can even keep the bloom on with little slugginess. Granted, this is only with a few structures and people moving about (I didn't get to play it for very long last night), but hopefully it'll stay fairly slug free as my cities grow.

Thanks again pam for the response. You ought to give that demo a shot. The graphics aren't revolutionary, but it is fun to finally get to play an updated version of the Caesar franchise again. (I'm kind of a city building freak...especially when it comes to the old Sierra games).

Hi guys!

I have the original Caesar IV, but everytime I try to install the game it says insert disk 2. So, I do that. Then he asks for the file Data3.cab. That file is on my CD, but still it doesn't work. I've found a trick to let that file work, because I put it in another map. But then at the end I have to insert a file named Empire.xml and when I do that, it doens't work.
What can I do?

Back up a minute.
Are you talking about user created maps?
Can you just simply install the game at all without them?

Have you inspected the disk(s) ( I'm assuming you bought the game recently if you didn't post more info.) ?
I've had similar problems and contacted Amazon (or the store I used/or the game's support) to return the disk(s) for replacement.

Hi, I bought the Caesar 4 game and I've installed it onto my computer - everything seemed to work fine. However, when I click to play the game, all I get is a white screen and hear the music/sounds. when it seems to be on the main page (or so I can only guess) I can sometimes see the cursor. Just wondering if anyone can help me with this problem. I don't believe I should be having ANY problems, because my friend built this computer for me with the system/hardware requirements needed to play Caesar 4.

Are you getting "Invalid key code", ?
Does it look like there's a server problem at their end (When you checked the game's forum were there many similar complaints from the same time that you were trying to connect)?
Are you behind a router that may need a specific port opened so that you can play on line ?

We need to know what error code you're getting and we need to know your computer's specs.
As it stands now you haven't given anyone anything to go on.

If the game now runs for you let it go.
Later on you'll need to do a full reinstall with SP3.
