Ok, firstly the last thing i wanna do is reformat my system, but if worse comes to worse then i will.
when i run the directx8.a setup, it extracts the files ok, however when it comes to "updating directX run-time components" the installation stops responding. there must be solution other than reformat. (i've also tried closing all running programs and disabling virus scan). any help is appriciated. Hi Pazzeratzi,
Where did you get this copy of DX 8. From a magazine coverdisk or did you download it from Microsoft? The reason I ask is sometimes I've had problems installing an updated DX from coverdisks. The version of DX8 I've got now was downloaded from the Microsoft site. It installed fine after a coverdisk version didn't. If you do use a version from a coverdisk, then copy the program or zip file from the CD to your desktop (don't start the CD browser - just "explore" the CD -find the DX folder - and copy it across) Then if it's a program - run it from the desktop. If it's a zip file - then unzip to the Windows>Temp folder and run the "exe" file from there. If you subsequently have graphic problems try reinstalling DX again. If you change your video drivers, you should reinstall DX again anyway. HTH, Mike |
