Pretty much every other game I have (BF2, Halo, Jedi ACademy, etc.) works except for WC3. Whenever I start the game the screen locks up and I have to end the process to get out of it. Ignore the specs on the bottom for my other computer. The specs on this computer is 6600gt nvidia, Asus P5A Super7 Motherboard, and a Western Digital Caviar WD800BB 80GB 7200 RPM 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive. All my drivers are up to date so no reason to update there, and my opengl is up to date as well.

Look in Event Viewer.
It may give some idea of what's going on. Have you tried reinstalling the game?

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Check each log for anything that happened when the game crashed.

Well I when I look in the event viewer I do see in the system tab that every time I start my computer it says that my driver detected a controller error for my hard disk drive. Now like I said before, my other games like Jedi ACademy and Halo both work fine and both require better graphics, but WC3 still doesn't work.

Hmmnn...
The system is fine at any other time but you have an IDE Controller error whenever you start up? Check to make sure all the cables are in tight, they can work loose. Have you run chkdsk on your hard drive.? Here's how : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265 Depending on what does/doesn't happen we can check further. it said after running chkdsk, in the command prompt,
Correcting Errors in the master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute. Correcitng errors in Volume Bitmap. Windows found problems with the file system. Run CHKDSK with /F to correct these. AFter doing : chkdsk /F I restarted the computer and it tried chkdsk then, and then I tried WC3 again and it still gives me a blank screen. Last edited by andymac1; 11-21-2006 at 08:57 PM. |

You've got a problem chkdsk can't fix and you've got a dieing hard drive.
If it's under warranty run the manufacturer's diagnostic on it and send it in for replacement. Get all the data you want off of it first. |
