Best Game

I know this is a crazy question, but what is your favorite game right now? My wife is going back tto the US soon and I want her to pick something up. What hardware/OS isneeded to run it?

Serious Sam- if you like first person shooters. Just read the reviews on it. The Cooperative mode (you can have up to 8 or more people join your game to help slay the monsters) is a nice addition and lots of fun. It only comes with one deathmatch level but others can be downloaded off the internet. (and it costs less than $20.00)

Yes I've got to agree with Prew.

Serious Sam was like a breath of fresh air in a turkish bath. Good fun and an amazing engine that performs well on older systems like my P2 450 with a geoforce 256.

If you like RPG then try Vampire the Masquerade. It's not new but plays like Severance or Rune. Great fun.

Max Payne is good if you like 3rd person shooters. I didn't quite agree with some people who suggested that it revolutionised the genre. But that's just me.

Alternatively, you could be a gentleman and buy your wife "The Sims". But then you'd never get on the PC yourself....

Well, I like strategy games (Total Annihilation, C&C, Age of Empires, and good old Dune 2 ).
And my favourite FPS is Counter Strike.

LOL.

I second Max Payne, great single player action game. If you have a good net connection then Counter-Strike is tops, but Unreal Tournament is still fun.

All of the games run fine on Win98SE, and you'll need a decent video card and at least 128MB of RAM.

Brood War (starcraft expansion) and Counter Strike are on my top 5 games ever made to this date. Once i get bored of one game i move on the the next and the cycle repeats on and on. Always fun though. mostly b/c they come out w/ new patches all the time to change things up.

Depends on what you like.

First person...Max Payne seems to be great, but no multiplayer.
Strategy.......Sacrifice and Black & White have been the best in the past year
Third Person...I liked Rune, but Alice was very good as well.

If you are into strategy-based sims, Tropico is really decent and doesn't require a powerful machine to run. It runs beautifully on my K6-2 running at 417 MHz (83x5) with a 16 meg TNT card and 256 megs ram on 98FE and it *will* run on NT with software acceleration - I ran the demo on it before I bought the real thing.

Thumbs up

Delta Force - Land Warrior

This is a great game and the internet combat options are awesome. I would advise to play the game and practice before going online. Although jumping in and just having fun works as well.

Unreal Tournament is my favorite. For the perfect blend of visuals, sounds and smooth gameplay, unreal is the absolute best. They can say that Max Payne revolutionized pc gaming, but unreal has done just that. You can see proof of that in how many games coming using the unreal engine. The code for it is art, but it is a fps game, but that's okay for us maladjusted malcontents. Don't bother playing it on a system under 500mhz with a 32meg vid card, though. Unreal requires top of the line.

Counter-strike is my favorite. I have only 3 games installed on my computer... they are Max Payne, Half-life (Counter-strike/TFC), and Unreal Tournament. UT gives my 1.4 and GeForce 3 a work out with a bunch of people all using the Pulse Rifle and Counter-strike is very addictive aside from cheating that runs rampant.

What's the use of cheating? These people need to get a grip and remember that it is just a game. They must be the kind of people that never seem to get tagged while playing two-hand touch football. "No, you only touched me with one hand, and one finger." Doesn't counterstrike have an anti-cheat mode? I don't have it, so I don't know.

That's why UT has lasted so long, and the credit goes to an average college-aged punk like the rest of us who played under the handle "DrSin".

This guy, later with others, wrote a mutator for Unreal that "forces" you to download an app from any server you play on, and the app in turn checks your installation of Unreal every 20 seconds from then on out, and sends any shady modifications back to the server. If the server sees a modified client, it kicks/bans your IP and creates a log of the incident.

Yeah, there are cheaters in UT, but they're very rare, few, and far-between compared to other games. I think that's why I've never been able to seriously play Quake 3 or Counterstrike. Cheating is much more common in those games, and after the steps the Unreal community has taken to stop this, I expect a clean game when I play something.

I'm running Win2k, our UT server is hosted on Red Hat 7.1

Xayd comes from a MUD I used to play (text based game, kinda like a chat room with rules and commands, D&D'ish). I was originally named Demorahl in the game because I found a bug in sleep spells that let me incapacitate and level creatures and people at a very fast rate in the game, and needless to say that pleased the admins of said game none too much . They told me I had to change names on short notice, so I just thought "well, something that starts with X, four letters or less". That leaves very few options, and this is what came out of it.

Been this name ever since.

I play Advanced Dungeons & Dragons SE and all the whitewolf material out, except trinity. One of the favorite games of my girlfriend is werewolf. I was storyteller for a werewolf campaign for over a year. When I first got online, I really wanted a unique name; I didn't want to be Lord Soth, ad nauseum or C-dog 2k. While playing werewolf one night, I told my players that I was more than just their daddy, I was their werewolfdaddy. Thus a internet legend was born. I've never been anything else on anything, except for my University mail address. It's celmore@utk.edu . Clinton Brabson Elmore doesn't sound very wolfish, does it?

Anyway, I am an Unreal Tournament addict and anything that expands my chances of getting in on a game is enough reason for me to donate spare pc parts. I'm even werewolfdaddy on unreal tournament.

TWO BIG THUMBS UP FOR UT FANS!! I love UT, i used to play Quake then Quake3, then my buddie told me about UT and WOW!!! It was the only game I have on my pc, except recently I installed Unreal, just to check out what started the whole craze, one player mode is pretty cool. I uninstalled all my other games, and used the extra hard drive space for lots of extra maps.

If anyone is interested (UT players, especially) you can check out our forum, greatest bunch of guys here's the link

http://board.unreality.dk/ubbcgi/ult...ubb=forum&f=32

sometimes you can catch us on irc.enterthegame.com channel #dvt, hehe, I'm actually gonna eat dinner and go on UT soon, I'll check back soon after I eat to see if anyone bit at the offer

What do you guys play Scorpion?

I don't get over to the unreality boards that often (once in awhile to pick on those ridiculous IDN people, that's pretty much it ). I remember playing with some people from a clan called Deviate with the tag dv8, is that you guys perchance?

Anyways, I can be found in #[vs] on irc.enterthegame.com as well, dunno if you've played with or against us before. We're primarily TDM, with dabblings in DOM as well.

When I go on, I usually play DM, with clan {DvT} (Deviants), we play TDM. These guys are the best, of course I gotta say that, hehe , but it's a blast, server is out in the West Coast, I don't ping well, I'm in Boston, sometimes we DR's server is up, a T1, I love that one, ping's alot better!!

No we are not dv8, never knew if we ever were, I just joined DvT a couple of monts ago, so I can't be sure, but, I doubt it.

Nah, not you guys then, dv8 is a CTF clan that just dabbles in TDM if I remember correctly.

Strange that I haven't run into you guys on the ladders and leagues, when we're at our most active we play on Teamplay, OGL, and Proving Grounds simultaneously. Are you guys playing on any of the ladders out there at all?

Stop by #[vs] sometime, we'll get a scrim or something. I'm usually around from midnight-til on Saturday through Wednesday, and I'm around all day on Thursdays and Fridays.

Well, our clan does not do any ladders, from what I was told, we are one of the original Unreal clans, I don't know what their involvement with other clans were, but mostly we just match against eachother. Once in a great while we'll match other clans, but I have yet to see it, hehe

I'll log on, when I get a chance, things are kind of busy now, don't even know if I'll make it this weekend, maybe Sunday after noon. Oh, and don't expect too much, lol

On PG, look for {DvT}SSgt{Tyler}[x], and [COA]Static, I think they're starting on the 2 vs 2. I used to be on, but too many morons at the bottom of the ladder, LOL!

I will log on evertime I get a chance to play UT

Hehe, COA I know, so at least we know the same people.

KillEmAll used to play on some of the same pubs I played on, and we've played them a few times coming up through various ladders.
