FEAR update pooched

Anyone know a workaround on the "fear_update_en_100-107_108" update glitch?

It keeps telling me I don't have FEAR installed on my computer and cancels the update.

Did you have the prior patch installed? That's not an all inclusive patch and needs the prior patch to work. Not sure if that's your problem, but it may be a start

Why no, I have no patches installed. Guess I should start from square one....

You're getting "Extraction Point" right? You can wait for that as I believe it patches the game to 107, then you can try the 108 patch again. I haven't tried the 108 patch myself... (yet )

I wonder what the patches do? I heard complaints about the game being buggy but I had no problems at all. Hope they don't muck anything up.

I don't know. The game played just fine out of the box for me. I know a lot of game patches are for fixes for online playing, but I don't do that. OK... now I know, here's what their site says:

This update is for v1.07 of F.E.A.R. and brings it up to v1.08. This is a required update. This update will not work if your copy of F.E.A.R. has not been updated to the v1.07. This update can be used with retail and digitally downloaded copies of the game. Update Notes - Multiplayer: * Added ability to pick up and reuse Proximity Mines and Remote Detonators that were thrown by yourself. * Limited support for Spectator Mode in objective (CTF, Conquer All, and Control) game modes. * Added code to improve spawn with buddies system in team game modes. Will be noticeable only in Stockpile and custom maps. * Player kill/death messages are now shown in both system and chat messages. Player kills and deaths will only be displayed in the system message area. Update Notes - Single-player: * Fixed bug where trying to start a game for the first time after switching from multiplayer to singleplayer would give a "Disconnected from Server" error. Update Notes - Global: * Added widescreen support. * Fixed bug where FEAR.exe would not always start when switching from FEARMP.exe to FEAR.exe.

It's the same exact error Ext Point says it must install the 1.07 patch and then I get the friggin error in the pic here.

Grrrr....

Think I may have found a solution.

I'm downloading FEAR Combat, the mulitplayer version, it's free. It's the 1.07 file... hmm, now that I think it through, that's the same file that is causing so many problems... Dang, well, here's hoping against all odds that the gorram thing will work.

The thing is, it's 1.8 Gbs big and taking over 30 mins to download and it's transferring at a killer rate of over 750 kbps! That thing is freakin' huge!

A guy in that thread mentioned he put his Disk 1 in his drive and reinstalled and I remembered that my game of FEAR has been prompting me to insert disk 1 but the first time I tried it nothing happened.
Well, after reading that I hit the Install button and it did a quick prolly over the top install of the files in Disk 1 and then, presto! everything worked fine and dandy!
I can now play Extraction Point. YEE HAWWWW!!!

Man, these Replica soldiers are a lot more accurate in this one. And they travel in more than twos or threes at some points....

Actually have to go back to using SloMo again.
