Odds are that you will get more performance out of your card with the latest Detonator drivers from NVidia, so yes your friend is steering you in the right direction. I'm using the very latest NVidia Detonator 4 drivers for my Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 GTS and I'm quite happy. They can be found here.

Check out the creative site; they should have a list of supported drivers for it. You can always experiment with them. If you really want to test them, download MadOnion's 3DMark 2001. You can download a demo at www.madonion.com . Run the benchmark with each driver and keep the one that has the best result. Ofcourse, 3Dmark is a directX benchmark test, and one driver may be better at opengl than directX and another maybe the other way around. Ofcourse, you can always go nvidia's site and download the newest drivers. I believe that they just posted a brand new one on the 10th.
Then again, you could buy a Geforce 3 and forget the paltry 2 gts. I know the gts is a great card and some people have complained that the geforce 3 hasn't lived up to the hype, but you have to understand that nothing out right now, except maya, truly uses this card's abilities. I was sick with grief about my card until I saw the maya demos for it(mine is an oem and didn't come with the demo like many do.) Now, I am a believer. And off the soapbox... With the geforce II mx I owned, the best driver I found was 12.41 . The detonator drivers made it jerky, but it could have been my card or I could have downloaded the wrong drivers. Ofcourse, before you do any experiementing, make sure you have copies of all the drivers so you can choose which one you want. I always keep them on cdr's: labelled ofcourse. Hope this helps.

Ofcourse, tiretool is wiser by far than me. Listen to him, really.
I downloaded the newest xp drivers for millenium and they have improved the performance of my geforce 3. Nvidia is a wonderful company. Guess, I'm an nvidiot now and I was a voodoo zombie for some time. Hey, tiretool: I love that Avatar; can I copy it?

Seriously, I don't know everything there is to know about drivers... use your discretion and keep the driver that provides the best performance for you. Of course you can use that avatar. I'll attach it to this post. |
