Looking for next MMO. Anyone have opinions?

I played FFXI alot and enjoyed the auction style sell/buy program. I loved the story. Only flaw that killed the game is the ONLY way you can level is in a group. I want the ability to do groups or have a job that I can actually fight battles myself.

I started WoW a year ago and found it to be a mix of FFXI and Dark Ages of Camelot. I stopped playing after the free trail. Now I'm just to far behind to start playing this.

I tried EverQuest 2 and Dark Ages but they just bored me and they are just to old now.

I tried Simple Life some but didn't enjoy the controls.

I was thinking about the LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online). Anyone else have any opinions on this game or any other game thats a new MMO?

I'd check out Starwars Galaxies. It was the first mmorpg I got into and enjoyed it. Some people recommend Guild Wars.

You sound like a guy who should sign up for betas.
Head over to GameSpot or IGN and find out what's up and coming.
I've been bored to tears by a few MMORPGs so I sympathize but, if you hang in there, you may find one you like.

Sounds like that would be interesting. How do you find the betas? Just simple research I assume. I do spend some time at GameSpot (www.videogames.com) but I never looked for betas. Only beta I'm involved in is Halo 3.

That will probably tell u more than I can because I quit playing after the updated the game awhile back. When I played it had a great community, and the game play itself you played like you were in the settings of the original trilogy. You can join the rebellion, empire, freelance. When I played I did Missions for Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Jaba the hutt. If you liked SW its a great game.

But beta testing sounds fun, I might look into that too.

Hey pam, where is this forum Games/Graphic Software I know I'm posting in it but when I go to the software section of it I don't see "Games/Graphic Software" listed. Am I missing something obvious?

EDIT: Heh, It's in the gaming and benchmarks now.

Looks like the Lord of the Rings one just opened up. That might be fun to get into during the beginning of it.

yeah focus on new MMO games , old ones can be hard to find a crew to learn the game with. I had that bad experience with Everquest. Veterans who have been playing for years dont feel like teaching the next gen.

When I first heard of Pirates of the Burning Sea, I thought it would just be one of those games that are sure to fail. Looking into it though, it seems to have a lot of potential. I'll definitely try it out.

Don't forget to look into Warhammer: Age of Reckoning either.

I'm kinda surprised noone said anything about Vanguard. It is brand new. I haven't played it yet, but I am getting it in a few weeks. I checked out their website. I would say that this game looks amazing. It is similar to WoW. Its a bit more indepth though. There are 3 different areas you level in; Adventurer, Diplomacy, and Crafting. That means the game isn't only about killing things. There are 17 classes, and 19 races (4 are different kinds of human) each with their own bonuses. For more information, go to http://www.joinvanguard.com Oh, and you get mounts a lot ealier in the game.

LOTRO is actually pretty cool - it has borrowed bits from other MMOs (like WoW and EQ2) but it all works rather nicely with some smart storylines and quests that are very well integrated with Middle Earth lore. Looks fab too, I'd recommend giving that a whirl.

Vanguard I'd steer clear of... the Diplomacy system is a nice idea, but the rest of it, well... (check out this review here to read up more... http://www.itreviews.co.uk/games/g304.htm)

Well, I thought I'd give you an update on WoW since I ended up paying for a subscription before my free trial ran out.

I'm still finding the game fun, though the constant action does become a bit tedious after awhile. You can easily get distracted during a quest and begin grinding simply because if you walk too closely to something you typically get attacked, and being attacked by a mob usually ends up with you dead.

Some of the quests are actually entertaining, though on the whole they get fairly repetitive. There's really only so much you can do quest wise in a mmo, so I'm not blaming WoW for this - I believe on the whole they actually handle it better than most. Many of the quests and instances are meant for group play, which is always a ton of fun, and a good way to meet in-game friends (aka people you can call on again to help you through the next dungeon). When doing an instance, be prepared to set aside nearly 2 hours or so to run it completely through. Killing, healing, looting, and repeating can take an extremely long time - granted, it's how you get the best items in the game, so the time required is appropriate I suppose.

I'm still only a lvl 23 on my main character, and a lvl 7 on the alternative I created on a different server to play with some co-workers. I believe it's worth trying out all the differing classes because they really do play differently from another. With my druid I never really have to worry about healing potions since I have healing spells, though food and potions become key as a Hunter. As a druid I fight mainly as animals (bear, lion, sea lion), while as a Hunter I command a pet and can use a bow.
The many different play styles really adds to the fun.

Edit: Forgot to add that to be financially successful you need to use the auction house. When following the principals of supply and demand you can make a lot of money!

I don'tk now if anyone's ever heard of Knights. You can directly d/l from download.com and it's totally free. Don't mind the cheezy graphics and gameplay. It's kinda old, but ppl still go on everyday. It can be quite addicting really...

best thing to do ...and i play probably to many mmo's is to go to mmorpg.com and check the reviews on games in there. if you likw grinding or more quest based or if you like more party based mmos all depends. also if you like future or fantasy.

eve online is great future space lord of the rings is the newest crave and the guild wars are great for pvp.

huxley is a new shooter based mmo in beta atm fury is a strickt pvp comming out soon andwarhammer will be another WOW with its own twist
if you want tell me what your looken for in a game and i can help

My favorite site to find new MMORPGs is http://www.mpogd.com. You can sort out all of the P2P games, 2D and text-based, etc. I was actually just about to start a search for something new to play.

I would say go for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. http://www.WAR-RvR.net is your greatest source (imho) for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning info.
