BF2 or BF2142

Im looking at getting one of the two games, battlefield 2 or battlefield 2142. If anyone has played both, let me know which to buy. I really enjoyed battlefield 1942. I'm not as much about graphics as i am about a fun game to play. Sometimes futuristic games seem a little cheesy to me, but both games are supposed to be good so let me know which one is better, and why. Thanks!

BF2 is a good game, and is a step up from BF1942... it has a good online option as well, so long as you play on a good server. BF2142 apparently is very futuristic, and the community I play with is divided as to whether it's any good. Most people seem to still prefer BF2

Thumbs up Bf2142

2142 isnt Super futuristic, as in flying saucers with ray guns. It has hover tanks, and walkers. the most futuristic feature would be the titan, Ima say its like a star destroyer from starwars...only MUCH slower, it has 2 AA gattling guns and 4 artilery guns on the bottom.

It is incredibly internet heavy on 64 player matches, and you need decent hardware to make it a looker.

I enjoy it, no laser guns, there are 3 sniper rifles, claymore mines, C4, assault rifles and SMGs, the guided rockets are decent. It is futuristic, but well done, it makes for a believable 2142, not some ray gun type future. I love it, I quit WoW and all other MMOs because I play this all the time...yes you will get owned some games...but that happens to the best of us on any game...

I rate it 4.5/5 because some things annoy me, like how when shooting a guy in the chest he can still get a head shot on you or after a full chest shot with the shotgun he lives...stuff like that. Amazing game once you get used to it.

i would go with BF2 for now. Reasons:
BF2 is only under $20 not
BF2 has plenty of free mods are available: PR, EoD2, PoE2, DCON2 and more are coming - FH2 and BF2 Pirates
BF2142 is pretty much a mod of BF2 that EA charges money for....

BF2 is by far alot more fun and a more daring game. BF2 is faster paced than the 2142 and its alot harder in terms of ranking up. the graphics are not that different. The only i gotta say is that bf2 is far more buggy than 2142 more stable system. BF2 is going to be alot harder there are alof of players like my self that have been playing it since its release. You can run longer and faster on BF2, 2142 running distance is limited and its slower game. Nothin in 2142 makes is very cheesy its a well put together game.

There are always noobs on BF2 so you don't have to worry about (veteran ubers) ppl who played it from the start since they are always outnumbered :P

BF2 has about 14,000 online players at an average given time
BF2142 has about 8,000 online players at an average given time

during the day they usually have more, and less in the wee hours of the morning.

I actually got bored of 2142 and went back to BF2. It's actually a common story. It's more of an official mod of the popular BF2 than anything else.

I've never played 2142, but I always enjoyed a good game of BF2. I played BF1942 Desert Combat the most though...I had some very good times with both of those games.

Tomster, BF1942 was a good game, but BF2 was definitely a step up IMO. I never really got into the Desert Combat mod, and BFV was a disappointment after all the hype, especially with a few of the glitches. As I said earlier, I haven't really played BF2142 as a lot of people said it wasn't worth the extra expense

I'll still take one of the original blackhawk helicopters from the Desert Combat mod over any chopper from BF2. It actually took skill to fly one of those things - they didn't come with auto hover like actual EA created helo's did.

BTW, I was watching a few demo videos of BF2142, and it annoyed the heck out of me each time the player would utter a "scream" after being killed. Is there a way to turn that off in the options?

I dont know what videos you watched but I never noticed it while playing.

Both games are good. They both have demos, try them out and pick the one
you like best. Personally, BF2 was my favorite but 2142 was also fun to play.

Ok so if the majority of you like BF2, would you get the expansion packs that go with it? I've seen BF2 and all 3 packs selling for $40 as a set. Is it worth it?

I have both of them. I love those games. My rank is Sergeant. Like one of users, it depend on which server you play. Also, don't forget, keep eye on ping level. if you had higher ping, the admin of the server might kick you out from the game. I still don't understand why they (admin) kick me out just because I always have higher ping.

Higher ping brings lag into the server. It's a cruel act, but if you don't kick some of the high pingers then they ruin the gaming experience for everyone. It only takes one high pinger to bog down an entire server...

Yes.

However you may want to put your decision on hold. The BF2 stat system is down, so that means players kills\awards\medals\points\badges are not being recorded every game for some unknown reason since June 16 (most servers).

The big draw for me to the BF2 series over CS, is that it tracks your every kill\death\badges earned\etc etc
