Mac Gaming gets a boost? ..
EA co-founder, Bing Gordon, got up on stage with Steve Jobs today to announce that EA is moving back to the Mac platform and will start releasing games consecutively alongside their Windows counterparts.
John Carmack of ID software also went up on stage with Jobs to demo and new graphic technology running on Macs, but no word of what, if any, ID products it would be used in. Seems like gaming may be getting boost on the Mac. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...ac_gaming.html http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/06/....back.on.macs/

I hope to god your wrong =P
ID has been with MAC's all along becuase ID is amazing and doesn't give into mainstream corperate bull manure. And EA switching over to the MAC is quite odd considering they are quite possibly the most corrupt game making industry in all the land. They practically own everything and everyone. If MAC gets in with EA, then I will cry becase MACS with they're new Intel CPU's and good gfx cards will own the world. That will be the day that I die. Down with the MACS!

Sounds good to me. I wonder if it has anything to do with Macs being on an Intel platform now?

I think it has everything to do with it, EA Games will require an Intel based Mac.

Mac's are niche computers like linux is a niche OS. Niether will be able to take the world by storm. The fact that OS X 10.5 has boot camp lets apple take a little bit bigger piece of the pie, but macs will continue to be a niche computer.

It's true, Apple will always be a niche player, at least I hope so because the bigger they get the worse their support gets. Apple are already 4th in notebook sales and 5th in Desktop sales in the US and their support satisfaction numbers took a hit accordingly.
Category: Laptops Rank Brand Unit Share 1 Toshiba 26.2% 2 Hewlett Packard 23.9% 3 Gateway 13.0% 4 Apple 9.9% 5 Compaq 8.5% Total Dollar Volume: $696,976,800 Category: Desktops Rank Brand Unit Share 1 Hewlett Packard 35.0% 2 Compaq 16.7% 3 Gateway 16.6% 4 Emachines 16.4% 5 Apple 7.7% Total Dollar Volume: $304,787,600 http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=aZ10DCwhy1Xo So they may be a niche player but they're already out growing themselves IMO. |

I think thats just retail numbers, doesn't include Dell or Apple's online sales? Obviously Dell isn't doing too great at retail.

I hope to never find Compaq's name on a list of "Top Customer Satisfaction"...Even the keys on this POS are horrible.
I'm so glad HP bought them out so that their tech support / anything support could become 10x worse - and then be transferred offshore to people who don't speak English (and get angry with you because you can't understand them).

This is great news - i'm glad to see all of these positive changes happening for mac gaming in general, getting intel chips, EA support, broader recognition, boot camp. I've always had one foot in the mac camp anyway (Cinema Display with my PC + Powerbook G4), but i've never been able to go over wholesale b/c of the whole games issue.
Is it true boot camp will come preinstalled with Leopard? Would installing and playing PC games be as simple as booting up into windows via the bootloader? If so, I might be able to contemplate a full switch entirely, once Apple's new Cinema Display come out and they ship Blu-Ray drives with the macpro. |
