Where are the second installments?

Where are the second installments for HL2 and FEAR?? I didn't search so I don't know when they are expected to be out but it seems like it's been a long time from their respective Episode 1's ...

It looks like HL2 Episode 2 is coming out October 9th.

I don't see mention of a release date for FEAR, although I don't know what the next installment is even called.

October isn't too bad, I guess. I'm just looping around my games again and was thinking of something fresh. Just finished Halo again and am re-starting Prey.

I agree with Force Flow on the 10/9/07 date for HL2. It's been pushed back a couple times already. As for FEAR, I went and snooped around through their website and didn't find a single thing promoting any new installments. About the only thing they were talking about on there was something called FEAR Combat......sounded like an online multiplayer type of thing.

That's a drag to hear FEAR isn't pushing an new release... -- If both FEAR and HL2 released their "episode 2s" at the same time, I'd get FEAR first!

Yes, HL2 is worth reinstalling. Great game, well programmed. Ran smoothly on my old system at max settings! Also, in the last level you get the most awesome weapon ever.....waaaay too much fun just messing around in that level :-)

@ TwoRails: Half Life 2 Episode 1 has been out for about a year; it was the first 'hl2 extension.' FEAR also has FEAR Extraction Point that is its follow-on. More of an add-on than a FEAR-2 from what I've read, but it's got some new levels, weapons, etc.

YES! It's a great game and a whole lot of fun. Like LeftyAce mentions, one of it's good points is it runs good even on older systems whereas games like DooM 3 did not. And the gravity gun is the most fun weapon...

Thanks for the tip, LeftyAce, but I do already have them... sorry for my poor wording above, but I was looking for the "extentions" after those

Most of that time was spent building the engine. Now that the engine is build, it's a fairly simple matter (in comparison) to create maps for the game.

True...but they have been "upgrading" the Source engine as they go - which I think was one of the key features of the engine (easy upgradability).

Looks cool, yeah, but I'm too low on the specs to run it. Not enough memory. Besides, 3.21 Gig would take me DAYS to download on dialup!

Right..thanks to the Steam system they built, they were able to distribute updates/fixes easily.

I found put they discontinued the Sin Episodes. It's a shame. I always thought ritual had potential.

I heard that Sin was very very difficult to play... perhaps that played a part to the demise? How high did they get in episodes? I've only seen Episode 1 in the local stores.

They only got to the first episode and then they got bought out. A lot of there developers left in the middle of the project.

F.E.A.R. is no more. 2 different companies got partial rites to it. One company got the IP, as in the name F.E.A.R. and the other company got the rites to the story and characters but not the FEAR name. So we might see 2 FEAR-type sequels but neither would be a true successor.

That sucks... I guess that's why I was getting names like FEAR PANIC and FEAR Live Action and others when I searched it... -- Why destroy one of the best games ever?? Don't get me wrong, I love HL2, but FEAR has much more re-play value to it IMO.

Yeah, me too. I haven't gone for Extraction Point quite yet, but even then, they can go really far with their story. No spoilers here, but especially concerning your character, there are some incredibly cool things that could be done.
