F.E.A.R. Crack

So i bought F.E.A.R. and when i tried to install it i got an error, the second cd couldn't be read, so i couldn't install. Me being lazy, i didn't want to try and get a replacement, so i let it sit for about a year. Finally i came back to it wanting to play it, so i downloaded the game with a crack and it worked, fortunately. Unfortunately, it will randomly get laggy in some places(doesn't matter if its inside or outside, actually runs good outside). I have got everything on max except for soft shadows, and i was wondering if it is because of the crack that my game is running so poorly. It will run fine for an hour, but then it gets so laggy i cant do anything so i quit and reopen and then its fine until the next time it happens. its not that big of a deal if i can't fix it, but if you have any advice, it would be appreciated. i was also suggested to set the game process in task manager to a higher priority, would that be helpful or dangerous?

Specs: SAPPHIRE Radeon X1800XT 256MB

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4

You won't find much support here for cracked software. Even if you bought the game and it didn't work, you still participated in an illegal act. I would have taken the game back right away, but thats just me.

My real 2 cents involve your RAM and your task manager. Setting a higher priority shouldn't cause any trouble. Done it a few times with no ill effects. As for the RAM...I don't know how you managed to cram DDR stuff in there...I'll assume that it's a typo.

hmm, honestly, i didnt no having a crack was illegal if i still had the game. whoops... and for the DDR, i originally had DDR2 but the motherboard i got recommended here was not compatible, so... but if anything is slowing it down its probably my ram? thanks for the advice

moxing2 you should have emailed the game publisher and gotten a new copy ( taking open games back to the store is a problem ) .
For the rest, FEAR does have a lag problem but I don't know if the patch will work with a cracked copy.

Yeah, F.E.A.R. is a pretty intensive game. With the detail it has to draw and the interaction with your environment, the lighting, the physics...all of it requires a ton of your machine and isn't very forgiving. The reason I call your RAM into question is because your video card is about 53% better than mine (according to Tom's Hardware) and we run the same processor. I still get lag and I've got 2 gigs of Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800. Just turn the settings down a tad, it still looks incredible. Oh, and turn off HDR. You still get nice looking brights and really deep darks without it, and things look a little more raw.

If that doesn't fix it, which it might not since you mentioned than it ran fine for an hour or so, maybe take a look at your task manager right before you suspect it of happening again and see if a spike in CPU usage occurs.

When I originally bought HL2 the included cd key was already in use (most likely in someone's cracked copy). I took it back to the store and had it exchanged for a new one. Any retail store will let you do that. It beats having to make a phone call to the manufacturer and having to wait for them to send you a new one.

When a program or a game is cracked, then it most likely will never run quite as well as the untarnished retail copy. You often get odd problems like the ones you're experiencing.
