Maybe I'm getting jealous of the people on Madonion.com that have their cpu's and geforce chips o/c. I still think my system is running slower than it should. How long should counter-strike take to load the server? It takes over a minute and it angers me. lol... guess maybe I was expecting more than I got.

running a MD 1ghz geforce2mx 400 64mb
and getting 3760 for benchmark results. However, i do have the CPU o/ced to 1066MHZ rather than 1000MHZ, but i don't think that it makes that big a diff. |

Asus A7V266 w/ 1.4G T-Bird and Radeon 64DDR, I average in the low 4000.
Funny, my Appian Jeronimo Pro PCI card in my studio shouldn't really perform well in a 3D test, but on the same mobo/CPU combo it gets in the high 3000. -Craig |

good god! 1700 with /that/ type of specs? hmmm....ok, first thing...check how many things you have runnign in the background. That alone can eat your machine piece by piece
Also, try doing a defrag, that might help Get the new Directx and Detonater 21.41 drivers....they will help, generally a lot other than that, i can tell you how to tweak your machine, if you want. Right now i've got a 1 ghz Athalon and geforce2 mx 64mb with benchmark of 4000 now...

Just thought I would make all of you feel good:
Soyo SY-6VBA133 MB Slot 1 P3 800 (8 x 100FSB) 384 megs of RAM running at 133 Voodoo3 2000 PCI 3dMark2001 score---915 !!!! (and that was at 16 bit cause this voodoo won't do 32 bit textures!) Looking at getting a Geforce2 GTS, the 32 meg DDR one, cause I can't really afford anything more at the moment. |

That's OK Jenni, My other computer has an 8Mb Rage Pro All-in-Wonder and dual 12Mb Voodoo2's in it and it only hits something like 600.

Hi Dead-eye,
I'm using the default resolution in 3D Mark 2001 for the standard benchmark. If you're getting a low score, you could try upping the refresh rate of your monitor to 75 Hz, seemed to work for me. Cheers Rob |

If you truly got that score, then surely you won't mind taking a screen shot of the results page showing your processor and the resolution and color bit-rate and your 4000+ score.

Well, I think that either games are nowhere near as demanding as 3dMark, or they are prejudiced against Voodoos. Because my V3 2000 still kicks butt in most games. I get 40-50 FPS in UT in 1024x768 (16 bit of course), don't have any problems running games like NFS: Porsche Unleashed or Quake3 or Counter-Strike, and this card is what, 4 or 5 years old at least! Granted, I have noticed a big difference in "jaggies" between my card and my brother's Geforce 2 in Counter-Strike, but not in any other games. Hehe, we were playing the other night, and I was on a rooftop. The roof across from me looked like sharks teeth it was so jaggy, lol.
BTW, Tiretool is right, No way are you gonna get 4500+ out of a MX200, or even a MX400 for that matter. My brother has 2 MX400's, on with TV out and one without, and he gets around 2300 with basically that same hardware, an o/ced Celeron and a huge amount of RAM. And he is an endless tweaker, believe me, if it can be done to the card, he has done it! |

IS XP home edition slowing things down and how do I fix the frames refresh rate problem I heard about. What settings do I use to not hurt my monitor??? its a NEC 19" FE950+ -- I already have the xp detonator drivers updated which helped my Open GL games tremendously and probably helped Quake III also. Any help is greatly appreciated ! thanks, Rommie Last edited by Smudge; 10-25-2001 at 01:48 PM. |

I only ran one test at 1024 x 768 32-Bit and did not think to shut down all my services and such. I got 6200, which is good considering all the money I put into the thing (specs listed in specfest thread). Some of the animation, especially that "Nature" one, is absolutely amazing. I would even consider killing to be able to do something half as good as that.

I normally average around 6500 with my computer: 1.7gig P4 with geforce 3 and 640 mb of ram. A few times, when I shut everything down but windows and the benchmark test, I scored 6850, but this isn't normal and usually after a reboot. When I ran it with 4 pass fsaa, I scored a 2850. I have a friend with a voodoo 5 that will not run half of the tests.

~2600 points. ~2000 2x FSAA Specs: Athlon 1.3Ghz Abit KT7a Raid. Voodoo 5 Need a GF3... but my voodoo runs all my games without any jerky play so im sticking with it for now. (120fps in action in UT) |

LoL. My comp was down for a week or so and I was browsing on the forums and to my surprise, my thread is alive and kicking! Anyways, I've switched back to Win9x and things still run chunky. I haven't reinstalled 3D Mark 2001 cuz I dont want to hurt my own feelings again. In CS, the server connection never loads on the first try, always takes 2 attempts. Even games like Worms: Armageddon have video lag. Something is not right and I dont know what to blame. My computer does not boot particularly fast and applications aren't lightning like I'd previously thought when I was fantasizing about this system. I would think its my OEM processor and now I'm glad I paid an extra $29.95 to extend my 30 day warranty to 1 year. Maybe I'll send it back. Games run great once they finally load... getting around 400 fps in Counter-strike (dated engine, I know) at 1290x900x32 in OpenGL mode. Anyone got any idea why this thing runs like my K6-2 550?

Increase your ram to 512. That could help with load times. I have a friend with a P4 1.7 gig like me, but with only 386 in ram compared to my 640; I normally beat him hands down opening apps and games. Yes, we race our computers.

I will probably be buying a new harddrive and I guess some more ram... but I remember when CS came out, I was playing on an AMD K6-2 350mhz 64mb SDRAM PC100
I would think this would be plenty. I agree getting more ram will help, but should I have to? If there is a problem, I'm getting screwed performance wise anyhow. |

I just checked my system resources and it was at 69% I closed every program running in the system tray and got it up to 81% My old computer never seemed to go below 89%
Any ideas? |
