what is a PRO vid-card?
Do you need a special motherboard for a pro? I heard somewhere that PRO vid-cards work only on certain motherboards (that have a pro slot). Is this true, or is this just the name of the video card(example: GeForce 2 Pro)?

I thought I read that there is an PRO AGP type videocard that has a different number of pins and is designed to handle a different power management system to deliver more power than a standard AGP. A PRO AGP maximizes its potential when mated with a PRO motherboard. From what I understand a PRO AGP card is compatible with non-PRO AGP motherboards but a non-PRO AGP card cannot be used in a PRO motherboard. The extra power from a PRO motherboard will damage the non-PRO AGP card.

Thanks Alan!
I knew I had heard something about Pro-vid cards and how they are different than other AGP cards, but I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone. Thanks again Alan, much obliged!

Some mobos can support either AGP or AGP Pro. On the Asus A7A266 for example,
to fit a Pro card you just remove a tab on the AGP slot. I have not come across any warnings about using in my Mobo manual or my new 3D Prophet 64mb graphics card manual about dangers of using an AGP Pro card in a non Pro mobo. But then again, the slot may be smaller which makes fitting a Pro impossible. I must measure the respective slots and see. |

YOU might have a T3 but I have a 56k modem, and even worse, its with the free ISP Netzero. I really should upgrade but i have no reason to because i never have enough time to sit down and play online. THIS weekend i have a dang calculus test to study for which is worth have of our grade, plus i have to work! I don't know when we can get together(online) and even if we could, my modem would make our game lag city!
