Please help...I don't understand why this is happening.

So, I was at "Big Box Store" and bought Need for Speed Carbon Collector's Edition. I tried installing the game and it made it through between 20 and 50% of the installation before it gave an error saying something like "a problem occurred when trying to transfer "this file." So I tried again...same problem. I tried again and again and received the same error. I called EA to get some tech support and they had me try copying the files from the DVD to the computer and run the install that way, same error came up. So I went back to big box store to exchange it for another. I took the 2nd one home and got the same errors. I tried installing the game from my 2nd DVD drive also, no avail. I called EA again and again trying to get the problem fixed. They asked me to start my computer up in Safe Mode...I tried and it froze while trying to load the jgogo.sys file. So I called EA again and they said that I would need to send the game in for them to make sure that it isn't the game. Any help?

My second problem...I went out and bought Fable: The Lost Chapters since NFS wasn't working. I had a problem installing the DVD at first, but after about three tries I made it through the full installation process. I started playing the game and made it through about an hour and it gave me an error and said that I should try playing the game in "safe mode." I tried, same error. I even tried creating a new profile for Windows XP to play on, same problem at the same spot (trying to get into the Orchard Farm for my quest). Any help?

I have installed Age of Mythology, Diablo 2, and Age of Empires III, played them all, no errors, and beat them all. These errors just started happening 2 days ago. I don't understand why it is happening now, with these particular games. Thanks!

Here is what I am running (and I built it myself)...
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB
Intel E6600 C2D 2.4GHz
Asus P5B
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
4GB Corsair ValueSelect DDR2 (4x1GB)
Lite On SATA DVD Drive
Lite On SATA 20x DVD+/-R DVD burner with LightScribe
Antec Sonata III Case
Windows XP SP2 (this was the edit).

About Need For Speed, yes there could be a problem with the game files.

Check for problems at your end by running chkdsk and making sure your system is fully updated and run CCleaner : http://www.ccleaner.com/ in case there's something lurking in the registry.

It's possible one batch of disks was poorly pressed ( happens with games, movies, and music CDs) if so you'd have that problem.
Send EA the game since only they can tell with any certainty.

As for Fable, did you check the game's site for any patches or updates ?

eidt : Into every gamer's life some grief will fall. It happens to us all.

I ran CCleaner...cleaned up about 30Mb of stuff. I tried running Fable again, same error (even running in "safe mode.") This is the error:

AppName: fable.exe AppVer: 25.7.13.149 ModName: fable.exe
ModVer: 25.7.13.149 Offset: 00011946

I am clueless! Lol.

Edit: Chkdsk came back clean. Computer updated. No patches for Fable.

MS Help&Support list what you've already tried, create a new account, as the fix.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916908

Did you use their method?

If you have a soundblaster card you need the most recent drivers since it causes a very similar error.
This thread suggest that realtek may have a similar problem : http://www.driverheaven.net/gaming-d...p-plllzzz.html

I did try using MSFT's method of creating a new user and logging on with them. Same spot in the game, same result. I just read through the other link you provided. At the end of the forum, someone said to moving the sound's acceleration to no acceleration from full acceleration. Tried and failed. Same spot, same result. Hmmm...Will continue to search for updates to game and my hardware.

No problem. If you know of any driver updates for my computer or for the game, just let me know. I put the computer together in June and haven't updated any drivers (except the ones through Microsoft Update). Just let me know.

The one thing you should know about MS's update is that you don't use it for hardware updates.
That means that you should check out NVidia'a site for new video drivers, and the Asus site for an chipset updates for your motherboard.

Dumb question. How do I update the chipset drivers? Since I am using onboard sound, can I also update the sound drivers too? I thought there was a way that I could update the motherboard drivers from a USB drive, but I forget how I did it before. Thanks.

Here's the list of recent downloads from the Asus site (click on the "Drivers" tab) : http://support.asus.com/download/dow...n-us&model=P5B

Read through it carefully and only get the ones for XP 32 bit that you need.

edit : You can install from a desktop save.

Do you think this problem would be solved by upgrading to Vista? It is hard to tell if it is the computer or the cd game, I understand. Just thought I would ask. Maybe I'll upgrade before Crysis comes out in November, maybe sooner to play BioShock. We'll see. Just thought I would ask your opinion.

No it won't.
If you feel the need to do something drastic re-install XP and do a full software rebuild that way.
Vista has major problems of its' own not the least of which is that the BioShock pc demo will not run in DX10 on it.
