Some suggestions
I just bought a new laptop (32 bit Intel Duo 1.7 Ghz, 1GB, w/ onboard video(intel 945 or something)). I have a long plane flight so I was gonna get a game pad for easy gaming on the plane; I was thinking that I wouldn't have enough space to be furiously swinging a mouse around.
I wanted to get some suggestions on good old FPS games that would run on this puppy. For instance, the original Quake was recommened by one of my buddies. I was also pondering getting two game pads, so that my wife could also play. Are there any multiplayer games for PC's that are, or can be configured to work like that; console style? thanks |

Unfortunately there aren't.
You could try getting the original Half-Life or one of the No One Lives Forever games.

So the original Halflife would run on that set-up?
Anything else? |

Half-life, Quake 2, Serious Sam, Red Faction, No one lives forever, Return to castle wolfenstein, Soldier of Fortune, Medal of Honor.
And gamepad support for older shooters was pretty hit or miss. The best pc gamepads are the xbox 360 controllers. You may want to consider getting a mini wireless mouse to use.

Awesome. Thanks.
Does anyone know any old FPS games that will definitely suport a game pad? (and run w/ onboard video). I think I might be able to run Rome TW on the lowest settings for an RTS option. Darn I wish I had enough money to get a 7400 go, or at least a 6150. Does anyone know a good site to download free games? I think I might be able to get some of these old games this way. |

A buddy of mine has a similar laptop w/ on-board video and plays Rome TW just fine, we even put Medeival 2 on it and it was playable at the lowest settings. If you like RTS's you should be able to run any of the old Command & Conquer games just find. Also you should check out Diablo 2, fantastic rpg/dungeon crawler.
Not sure about a good (legal) website you can download games from. You should check out gametap.com and see if that interests you. You can sign-up for free and have access to 60 (i think) games and they add new ones every week. Or you can pay the monthly fee (its cheap) and have access to nearly 1000. They have old and new pc, nintendo, sega, and arcade games, definatley worth it IMO if you like to try out a variety of games from different generations. And many of the classic games they added online play and leaderboards to. |
