BioShock problems are real...

The good news is that it isn't a root kit, that story isn't true.
The bad news is that SecuROM protection is going to hose your system anyway .

that would explain why AVG took a disliking to my system after I installed it.

It always amazes me that companies go to such great lengths to prevent software piracy and in the end they only hurt the people who legally buy it. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

This is why I bought the 360 version. I don't mind legally purchasing a game that people worked hard on. Just don't like my $$$$ system getting messed up by some protection software. Besides give it about two or three months and someone will crack it anyway.

I thought there was something fishy about their DRM protection scheme...guess this is one game I'll be passing up.

That's a shame too, because like I said in the other thread, it's a whole lot of fun.

I plan on purchasing it through Steam. No SecureROM there.

Really? I downloaded on Steam and AVG didnt hint at anything, my computer scans with AVG everyday and it hasn't picked anything up with the BioShock Demo downloaded via Steam.

darkcoder > lolcats

but anyways, i found it amusing that, when I first saw a loading screen in bioshock, the caption was the one like "[guy i forget] can make it hack proof, but it doesn't mean we won't hack it."

doesn't help that i have serious problems tho. like lack of in-game sound and some surprising loss of framerate. still haven't found any solutions. oh well, i guess ill have to wait.

Someone would have cracked it in a couple of weeks after release anyway..

Look at DVDS for example. Wernt they released as having 'unbreakable encryption' or something to prevent piracy...Then within a week or something of release some super-nerd had broke the encryption...?

I think instead of harmfull protection, they should just earn the RESPECT of the customers. I only pay for programs that come from companies i respect, or CDs from artists i respect (unless there dead).

I know im not the only one.

Actually, from some of the rumors I've seen, it looks like it may still implemented even while buying it through Steam. Can anyone confirm?

Rats, I was hoping it wouldn't be true. I really dislike DRM, and especially what 2k decided to do here.

There's rumor that I haven't managed to track down yet (It could just be wishful thinking.) that 2K will eventually remove the SecuRom protection at some future date.
