Lost saved game.
I have a 120gb hdd that has 3 partitions C: OS, E: games, and F: my documents. I load all my games onto my games partition obviously, in hopes that if I have to reinstall my OS I don't loose my progress (at least I thought). I recently reinstalled the OS and when I went to start my game (FEAR), I could no longer load a previously saved game. Is there a chance that my progress is still saved, and that I just need to find it, or what's the deal?
Thanks Craig

Wait up a minute, you couldn't load the save or you couldn't find the save ?

The option to load a previously saved game is no longer available. It's there, I just can't select it which says to me that the game lost its association with the files that have my previous progress or that my previous progress has been deleted all together.
All I can do now is restart from the beginning. I wouldn't know what I was looking for if I were to search the game files for my saved game. I looked a bit for something obvious, but nothing jumped out at me. |

Try this : http://forums.vugames.com/message.jspa?messageID=98395
or check your Documents folder for this : C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR\save (In your case it would be whatever drive letter your Documents partition is labeled.). |

I've always had "my documents targeted to my F: partition, but by following the target you suggested it is listed almost the same as you wrote except that the Save files are under "shared documents", So instead of being on the F: partition it is still on the C: partition and thus got erased. Can you tell me how to make sure that my saved game files go onto my F: partion from now on? Can I just simply retarget the "Shared documents" folder and reinstall my games?

No the problem is with the games.
As you've just found out some will install program files on one partition and put save games on another. Vista is supposed to prevent that with a My Games folder in My Documents but it doesn't always work as it should. Until game developers re-think this sort of thing your only solution is to take careful note of where the save game file is, so you can return it there, and burn it to disk before a format. Ask on the FEAR forum for a save game file from wherever you are on that level. This happens often enough that someone will link you to the download you need. |
