Serious Sam II

First, thanks pam123 for saying in another thread "buy it and die laughing" -- I'm having a ball playing!

I am having problems, though... Out of the box, it played OK, but the sound was totally messed up in the cut scenes (and I found out later, during game play).

OK, so I downloaded and installed the 2.070 patch. The sound is fixed in the cut scenes, and there is a lot more in game play, but now there is a big mouse problem!?! With either a wireless or PS2 mouse the slightest movement will have radical movent, but looking only up or down. And I'm talking about a feather's touch.

Now the weird part. The game will play OK on first boot (or re-boot), but only for a short while, then it will get goofy again but only in corners or the like. If I run something else first, like check email and post here, the mouse won't work right at all in the game. A reboot is required.

There is another patch, 2.068, which says "(retail version)" so I'm wondering if there is a difference or not...

Any ideas?

TIA

TR

ps: I forgot to mention that when the mouse acts up, I can't even use it in menus and have to exit the game using the keyboard...

Last time I tried, I couldn't even get Serious Same II to install on XP SP2. Since Serious Sam is an older game (I have noticed a number of games that came out before SP2 and remained unpatched seemed to break), you might have to try running it on an older machine, or make sure you run it in compatability mode.

Hmm... I recently (4 - 5 months ago) upgraded to SP2 on this unit. The game box lists XP as as support, but like you mention, that was before SP2. I'll try the tip of compatibility mode

OK, that apparently did the trick! I've been playing since above and no problems. That's the longest by far I've played it in one sitting.

Thanks!

Now... how do you beat those football monsters???

PS: for anybody else having problems, I set it to 2000 compatibility.
