Call of Duty 4?
I saw a display for Call of Duty 4 pre-release demo at BB today. It looks pretty cool but what happened to COD 3? Was there one? If not, what did 3 do to deserve to be skipped? Oh the injustice. I guess I should go and check for a demo.

I guess you missed the boat on Call of Duty 3 because it came out a long time ago. Not sure exactly when but the Call of Duty series is always top notch.
I was talking about xbox and im not sure if it came out for pc. Last edited by dogdude16; 09-26-2007 at 06:31 PM. |

COD 3 was not made by Infinity Ward. Activision gave permission to Treyarch to develop COD 3, and it should not have been called COD 3. It should have had been labeled similar to Big Red One, and Finest Hour. It was not actually a sequel, it was a side-story game.
Infinity Ward made the first two Call of Duty games, and used their Quake III engine for both the first two games, but now they have redesigned the engine, and also has a physics engine. All of the material for Call of Duty 4, at Infinity Ward Development was found labeled "COD3". Seems as though they don't recognize Treyarch's work as a true sequel. So...from a certain point of view...there was no Call of Duty 3. Oh, and don't bother checking for a demo. Maybe rent the game if you have a spare day to waste. As of now the COD4 demo has been released. The BETA was multiplayer, but the demo is single player, and only seems to be 1/2 of the first mission. Very nice though. Very nice indeed. By the way, I run a server for a COD2 clan, we have the eXtreme Mod v2.2. You should stop by sometime and shoot at me. I play as General Chicken 8.12.17.214:28960 *USMC* United States MANIACS Clan

Just played the demo and wow Fun-tastic. For a noob of graphic and complex detail, it was a freaking experience.

Marke,
See you on there later tonight ![]() Ahura, That good, eh? I might just have to check it out and see if my little X2 can squeeze a few fps out of it. Totally lame-o about CoD3 by the way. That is right up there with M$ not releasing the Halo series immediately for PC. And Halo 3 especially! What are they thinking?!

One thing about COD4 though, The three "huge" gunfights between assailant and USM are a bit, say unrealistic. I am not talking about the ridiculously insano number of bullets flying around nor the ultra realistic grenade explosion and the screaming and yelling that sound liek right behind me. It is the scale of the gun fight, to be moar specific the distance. A gun fight of say, I guess, 20-30 people just does not look Quite Reasonable for an area of say width of a basketball game, Not length, but width. Even the length does not add up to realisticism neither. Taking in consideration the realism of the weapons, AK-47, M-16, G-30, RPG etc.
That might not be much for some people, but that really make it weird for me to fight in a playground battle size. Also, grenade at say 2 foot away from your face should kill everything in the radius, not "fatally" wound/temporary disable them. |

Well, you have to realize that urban combat is very close quarters. I've never been in combat of course, so I'm only guessing, but it seems like it might actually work our like that at times.
As for the grenades, some people have been right up close to them when they've went off. The effects are quite brutal, but not always fatal. As for temporary disabling...maybe ringing in your ears, but you can't have a leg blown off and suddenly you can use it again. |

Sorry hitchface, I didn't log in last night, spent the evening playing Guitar Hero with the kids. We are trying to get 5 Stars on all Co-op songs to unlock a secret guitar.
Tonight I'll be taking them up and down the street for trick or treating, but I should be on-line Thursday and Friday, you're more than welcome to shoot at me then.

Ahura. Having been to both Iraq and Afghanistan as a combatant military member I will tell you that the realism in COD4 is so much that I won't play it after playing the demo.
YOu can also survive the blast from a grenade by ducking. Grenades blow up and out.

I know the realism is insano. I'm just picky about the range in which the combat take place. They are all seem too close for all out w/ assault rifle confrontation.

As r as I could see, the game excelled at being fun, but like what others are saying, it seems quite un relistic.
For example, i doubt i could take 100 shots and still BREATHE, much less walk jump, and shoot like no tomorrow. |

Such is the nature of a first person shooter. If it was ultimately realistic, nobody would play it. You have one shot, and thats it. if you die, no more game.
I bet people would learn quickly to get very good at the game though. |

In Iraq a US Soldier was shot by a 50Calibre sniper through his chest, which ultimately should've killed him on impact, but instead he managed to get out and not only find help, but kill the sniper that had shot him. Now imagine games where certain 'lucky' people where selected to have high pain thresholds on games, sure it would be realistic but you'd have everyone bitching that such and such was taking too many bullets, it's bad enough now with equal health levels. So the ultimate war experience? Quote:

Most games who have "unique" players with special abilties are quite unfair, and personally dont enjoy them as i find others utilize these abilities such making it unrealistic, my view on Call of Duty 4 is that it uses the same great engine of the previous games, but there just needs some slight improvements here and there.
Grenade damage area Scale of the battle Team (e.g only move when you get to a certain spot or place)

single player i'm having a ball with. multiplayer, dont know, havent played yet.
the first mission, you are on a ship, and you have to locate a package, then something bad happens and you have to get off. thats when the fun begins. it took me 4 tries to get off that ship....whew what a rush. |
