splat Help with Steam Please!

Ok

Basically steam is a pile of crap, i realise this, however with the release of TF2 i want to start playing that. This is where the problems begin.
Firstly ive read all the connection issues etc on the steam webbieand so far nothing has helped.

Ive forwarded the necessary ports on the router but sitill no joy. I cannot whatsoever connect hardly any games, ive been able to connect to one server out of a list of about 40. All i get is "server is not responding" all the time.
Anyone have any idea how i can fix this?

Secondly, whenever i load the steam client and "attempt" to play any game when i exit from steam, my internet is dead. the TV icon in the corner is on, it says i have good signal strength and im connected, if i repair the connection it, i still cant connect to any webbies, if i restart the router same issue.
The only way i have been able to get internet working again after having steam on is to restart the computer which works everytime.

Lastly, when i do play TF2 both times the computer has frozen after about ten mins and i get a repeating sound in the speakers, screen goes black and game crashes.

If anyone has any ideas about how to fix any of these issues with the garbage that is steam please let me know and if you need my setup as well ill post it.

Thanks

First of all, is it an original TF2 copy?

2ndly, do an update of TF2 - the repeating sound crash is a bug, updating it will rectify the problem immediately.

Steam doesn't need any port forwarding. As long as you allow Steam in the software firewall (if you have) it'll be fine enough. I don't have any port forwarding and my Steam works nice.

yes its an original TF2 i bought it from steam yesterday, how do i do a update for TF2? ive ran it and it doesnt auto update, is there an option in the ingame menu? unfortunatly that does mena starting steam which will then kill my connection making updating pretty tricky if there is an update!

i dont have an option to allow steam in my router, i just forwarded the ports that it uses which i found on the steam webbie!

What about any firewalls on your PC? I don't see any reason why Steam should kill your internet connection.

Nor me really, its a wireless conn, does it make a difference? basically the main problem at the moment is the "server not responding" when trying to join a server. so far i have found one out of about fifty servers that will let me join and then i crash after about ten mins of play.

so frustrating!

Any luck using your computer on other non-Steam games?

Wireless shouldn't make a difference - I use both to connect and Steam works fine either way.

Have you restarted steam and/or your PC?

who is your internet service provider? Steam has improved from back in the day. I have no problems with it what so ever. I have a time warner connection on a linksys router running the dd-wrt firmware and still have no problem. Some less well known isps have ports blocked and stop people from gaming. They will have special gaming packages that will open up the ports.
