San andreas lags on my rig

Hey guys,

Well i just got GTA:San andreas for pc today because it was cheap and i never got to finish it on Ps2 because my memory card died with the game saves on and i just couldnt be bothred going all through the game again.

so i got the pc version,But it LAGS on my rig and i dont understand why because im sure my rig should be able to play it.

Quote:
GTA:SA system requirements

Intel Pentuim 4 or AMD XP Processor (or better)
384MB RAM
16x Speed DVD Drive
4.7GB Hard Drive Space
128MB Video Card
DirectX 9 compatible sound & video drivers
Keyboard, mouse or game pad

Minimum System Requirements:
1GHz Pentuim III or AMD Athlon
256MB RAM
8x Speed DVD Drive
3.6 GB Hard Disk Space
64MB Video Card
DirectX 9 compatable sound & video drivers
Keyboard, mouse
the graphics look so much better than the Ps2 version though,First i thought it might be lagging because i set AA TO 2X on 1024x768 so i reduced the aa to 1x 1024x768and still it lags.

it mainly lags when i pull away in a car and when driving the sounds cut out for a second.

My system temps are fine.

any suggestions?

Your specs are certainly enough to handle that game. Have you checked if any background processes are running like a virus scanner or Folding@Home? Also, how full is your hard drive and has it been defragged recently?

Also, are there any patches available for that game?

First, try whether you have update new video drivers, and also update the game.

Make sure you have nothing running in the background, defrag your hard drive etc. You should be able to run the game on high settings...I beat the game when it came out on PC a while ago on my old PC, 256 megs of ram, Geforce 440MX PCI card, and a 1.3ghz celeron processor and it ran on medium settings if I remember correctly...Lol

I can play SA well in my old Athlon XP 2400+ rig, provided if I ever have a better video card there for high details.

Even a Celeron D 2.8GHz with a Radeon 9600 or a Geforce 6600 will do too.
